Winter Texan couple serves as Estero Llano zgrande hosts

A total of 32 parks in the Mission area held their annual sporting events and arts and crafts show. Activities were sponsored by the Winter Texan Activities Association (WTAA).

A cabaret dance was held at Mission Bell Resort honoring the kings and queens from 18 parks. Approximately 450 people attended the special event. The Silver Tones played for the dance. The overall king for the evening was Russell Parmelee of Hopkins, Missouri, who is 96 years young. Overall queen was Fern Pool of Hebron, Nebraska, who was the backbone for getting 9-1-1 call in emergencies started. She started working for the telephone company in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The arts and crafts show was held February 24 at Neuhaus Gym with winners in several different categories.

In afghans, blue ribbon winners were Rosa Bertram, Twin Lakes; Shirley Pawlowich, Oleander Acres; Bob Whitaker, Hidden Valley; and Ruth McKinney, Canyon Lake.

In baby items, blue ribbons went to Doris Barron, Hidden Valley; Georgena Bessler, Oleander Acres; Alice Gorter, Fiesta Village; Bernice Lambrecht, Split Rail; Marilyn Martin, Split Rail; Sue Dungea, Oleander Acres; Isabel Morisy, Fiesta Village; Sharon Crosswhite, Twin Lakes; Joyce Griffith, Canyon Lake; LaRae Lord, Bentsen Palm; Jean Baker, Oleander Acres; and Paula Witzel, Hidden Valley.

Winners of blue ribbons for beadwork were Marilyn Gibson, Bentsen Palm; Margaret Mackey, Hidden Valley; Phyllis Callen, Enchanted Valley; Bonnie West, Split Rail; Margaret Grund, Split Rail; Judy Hamilton, Hidden Valley; Betty Dudley, Sunlight; June Wilmot, Chimney Park; and Maxine Wright, Chimney Park.

Blue ribbons for counted cross-stitch went to Kate Hull, Tropical Valley Acres; Bertha Wege, Wagon City South; Gail Dakon, Wagon City South; Marge Augustine, Chimney Park; and Evonne Cyrus, Bentsen Palm.

For crocheted items, blue ribbons went to Pat Lopez, Tropical Valley Acres; Wynona Box, Eldorado Acres; Reva McKinney, Split Rail; Vicki Kolstad, Split Rail; Maxine Posey, Wagon City South; and Marge Augustine, Chimney Park.

In decorated tops, blue ribbons were awarded to Donna Rosenthal, Tropical Valley Acres; Helen Price, Split Rail; Vicki Kolstad, Split Rail; Kay King, Fiesta Village; Priscilla McCoy, Sunlight; and Isabel Morisy, Fiesta Village.

Blue ribbons for embroidery went to Phyllis Ostendorf, Tropical Valley Acres; Sharon Sprowl, Enchanted Valley; Wynona Box, Eldorado Acres; Lola Dzuris, Split Rail; Marcene Flaata, Split Rail; Michaela Kalsow, Fiesta Village; Sue Dungca, Oleander Acres; Marie Arrigone, Canyon Lake; Rose Jensen, Canyon Lake; and Sherri Scheffert, Wagon City South.

In hardanger, blue ribbons were awarded to Connie Nyhus, Fiesta Village, and Mary Zimmerman, Chimney Park.

For knitted items, blue ribbons went to Connie Nyhus, Fiesta Village; Mary Legrid, Split Rail; Loris Westrom, Split Rail; and Sherri Scheffert, Wagon City South.

Blue ribbons for lap robes were given to Gladys Baird, Split Rail and Mary Jennings, Sunlight.

In acrylic painting, blue ribbons went to Teri Ewald, Oleander Acres and Vanice Maitland, Oleander Acres.

In oil painting, blue ribbon winners were Teri Ewald, Oleander Acres; Dorothy Price, Aladdin Villas; Freda May, Bentsen Grove; Alison Shreck, Bentsen Grove; Barb Riley, Bentsen Grove; and Joan Sandy, Bentsen Grove.

Blue ribbons for watercolor went to Gladys Agnew, Fiesta Village; William White, Bentsen Grove; Joan Sandy, Bentsen Grove; JoAnne McKinney, Chimney Park; and Linda Turner, Canyon Lake.

In scenery photography, blue ribbon winners included Wendy Burrows, Aladdin Villas; Kay King, Fiesta Village; Sylvan Williams, Oleander Acres; Jean Raines, Oleander Acres; and Bob Raines, Oleander Acres.

Blue ribbons for close-up photos went to Jan Flaata, Split Rail; Wendy Burrows, Aladdin Villas; Kay King, Fiesta Village; Dorothy Nelson, Fiesta Village; Sylvan Williams, Oleander Acres; Jean Raines, Oleander Acres; and Bob Raines, Oleander Acres.

For digitally enhanced photos, the blue ribbon winner was Jean Raines of Oleander Acres.

In the grapefruit pie contest, a blue ribbon went to Donna Schmidt, Hidden Valley; and in the lemon pie contest, a blue ribbon went to Wendy Burrows of Aladdin Villas.

In the pillow competition, blue ribbons went to Sharon Sprowl, Enchanted Valley; Marge Lippert, Fiesta Village and Helen Price, Split Rail.

Plastic Canvas blue ribbon winners were Joan Cook, Bentsen Palm; Betty Dudley, Sunlight; Dolly McNabb, Sunlight; and Maria Bendick, Canyon Lake.

Blue ribbon winners for purses were Betty Baker, Restful Valley; Bonnie West, Split Rail; and Dianne Davis, Fiesta Village.

In hand-quilted quilts, the blue ribbon winner was Donna Schmidt, Hidden Valley.

Winners of blue ribbons for woodturnings were Bob Paschal, Oleander Acres, and Marline Spangrud, Fiesta Village.

In other events, cribbage winners were first, Barney Mossburg and Charlie Peterson, W&I: second, Ron and Norma Wahlert, Bentsen Palm; and third, Don Thomas and Gary Wilcox, Oleander Acres.

Bridge winners were first, Lois Cook, Tropical Valley Acres; second, Carole Quade, Wagon City South; and third, James Stramer, Sunlight.

In men’s team golf, first place went to Bill Hurst, Dwain Hislope, Bill Erridge and Larry Braden of Split Rail; second, Al Gilbertson, Steen Boyd, Mike Downs, and Marline Spangrud of Fiesta Village; and third, Dave Scheffert, Pete Sufka, Gene Robarge and Wayne Halverson, Wagon City South.

In ladies team winners first place went to Rena Kaiser, Laura Imboden, Helen Smith and Helene Fortin of Bentsen Grove; second place, Zelda Tietenthal, Donna Woodard, Jo Ann McKinney, and Evie Muchow, Chimney Park; and third place, Sharon Northedge, Mary Ann Erridge, Leona Romine and Martha Karkau of Split Rail.

In mixed team winners first place went to Larry Gauther, Nicole Roy, Julie Cloutier and Rene Toussaint of Pleasant Valley; second, LeRoy and Shirley McBain, Coleen Parrent and Mark Causey of Mission Bell; and third, Claude and Lisi Lemay, Jacques Gagne and Rejenne Boisvert of Pleasant Valley.

In ladies singles, first went to Kathy Atkinson, Fiesta Village; second, Luna Spraggon, Hidden Valley Ranch; and third, Evelyn Leigh, Sleepy Valley Ranch.

In men’s doubles, first went to Clarence De Turk and Red Rudolph of Fiesta Village; second, Vic Ballik and Claude Roussy of Circle T RV Park; and third, Richard Spraggon and Richard Neumiller of Hidden Valley Ranch.

In men’s singles first went to Dave Owens; second, Lowell Burris; and third, Gene Roberts.

In women’s singles, first went to Luna Spraggon, second to Ruth Burris, and third to Dee Maruska.

In men’s doubles, first went to Bill Armour and Bob Hendel; second went to Terry Russell and Bob May; and third went to Bill Bertram and Virgil Baggett.

In women’s doubles first went to Sharon Weyer and Donna Johnson; second, Bonnie Schoenfield and Sherrie Anderson; and third, Dee Maruska and Betty Arbanas.

In the WTAA pool tournament first for ladies nine-ball went to Janet Craft, Hidden Valley Resort; second, Pat Van Raden, Fiesta Village; and third, Zelma Willis, Wintergreen Estates.

In men’s nine ball, first went to Gary Robinson, Adobe Wells Country Club; second, Link Metzger, Tradewinds; and third, Bennie Salisbury, Wagon City South.
