It seems as if the season just started and here is the last edition for the 2007-08 season. So many things to cover and so little time with 100,000 plus Winter Texans visiting the Valley each year.
This year’s entertainment showcases have been wonderful, and it is only going to get better. A whole group of new entertainers headed for the Rio Grande Valley this year with lots and lots of talent. The Lowe Family from Branson put on a dazzling show in McAllen. Headliner Moe Bandy played to sold out crowds and will be back next year.
New entertainment venues such as the Chicken House Opry have proved to be extremely popular with Winter Texans. Winter Texans love to be entertained and the future for quality acts to head to the Valley looks bright.
Winter Texans come from all walks of life and bring skills from their former careers with them when they come. Many are musical and contribute greatly to life in their parks with their weekly jam sessions. Others join bands and orchestras or choirs that entertain locals and visitors of the Valley.
Others are service-oriented and dedicate their time to helping children’s homes and schools on both sides of the border. Others build homes for poor families in Mexico, have fund-raisers to fund clinics in Mexico and help those less fortunate in a myriad of ways. The hours they dedicate to these projects cannot been measured.
The people who come to the Valley are fascinating. Leo, the blind golfer, who plays in Mission, is a great example of someone who has not given in to his health problems without a fight. There are many others just like him who have not given up on life in spite of the adversities they face.
Winter Texans are some of the kindest, friendliest people on earth.
Be careful on the road traveling home and stay safe! We look forward to your return next fall!
