Sweet onion blossoms, dancing horse shows, and a wide mix of musical entertainment will come together for a celebration at the Texas Rio Grande Valley Onion Festival on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Weslaco City Park, 300 N. Airport Drive.
The entertainment line-up includes sounds of country music and mariachis, with evening performances by Mazzizo, Tex Mex Kadillacs, and Siggno on the Latin Flair Stage, and emerging solo artist Star De Azlan on the Texas Spirit Stage.
Performance by the Andalusian and Azteca Dancing Horses is scheduled at 1 and 4 p.m. in the Cricket Charro Arena. This group of eight to 10 riders perform with this unique breed of horses with precision and grace as they dance to traditional Mexican music.
A new feature to the Cricket Charro Arena will be the Flores Family Charros and the group called the Escaramuzas. These two Charro groups from San Antonio promote the culture of the Mexican charros. The Escaramuzas are a group of young girls and women that perform precision equestrian maneuvers while riding sidesaddle.
Food concessions will line the venue, and there will be an arts and crafts tent with a showcase of jewelry, paintings, books, CDs, and craft items.
Festival admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children. Purchase advance tickets at the Weslaco Business Visitors Center located at 301 W. Railroad St. in Weslaco.
