McAllen Chamber of Commerce is offering a variety of birding experiences throughout the Rio Grande Valley April 10 through 12.
"This is a great opportunity to experience the best locations the Valley has to offer," said Annabel Cortina, director of special events and media for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. Joining one of the trips is a great way to experience the beauty of nature with other nature enthusiasts. It’s one thing to take a tour of South Padre Island on your own, but it’s something completely different when you have an expert nature guide who shares the details about what makes the area so special," said Cortina.
Trips planned for Thursday, April 10, include Bentsen and Anzalduas Parks, $50, at 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and mid-Valley destinations include Estero Llano Grande, Frontera Audubon, and Valley Nature Center, $65, at 6:30 a.m. returning at 3 p.m. A nighttime Owl Prowl, $45, at 7 p.m. returning at 9 p.m. is also planned.
On Friday an out west trip, $55, that includes Chapeno, Salineneo, and Star County Park will leave at 6:30 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge and Quinta Mazatlan, $50, will be offered at 6:30 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. A lakes and wetlands trip that includes the Salt Lake, Delta Lake, and Edinburg Wetlands will leave at 6:30 a.m. A parakeet watch is planned for 6:30 p.m. A Dutch-treat dinner is planned.
On Saturday, a coastal trip, $85, to South Padre Island and Laguna Atascosa will leave at 5:30 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Kayaking the Rio Grande, $80, will begin at 5:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. A trip to Brownsville and Boca Chica Beach, $55, leaves at 5:30 a.m. and returns at 3 p.m.
Water and snacks will be provided on all field trips.
