Music has always been important to the Greer family. Kathie Greer’s parents were into playing bluegrass music. While it was not the main focus of the family, it was always important. John and Kathie were country music fans until Tate started repeating some of the lyrics he was hearing. They refocused their interest into bluegrass.

With Tate’s interest in music, the family first took an old banjo to the music store and had it restrung so he could take lessons. Immediately, his talent in music became evident so John and Kathie decided to play with Tate. John learned to play upright acoustic bass and Kathie learned to play the acoustic rhythm guitar.

The Greer’s have two younger children, Jase and Katie. As they got older Jase began playing the fiddle while Katie took up the mandolin. Performing at weekly jams soon became a highlight of the week for the Greer family.

In addition to being able to play instruments, each member of the family has a strong voice and can sing lead or harmony to compliment each other’s voice. This gives the band the benefit of having a great variety in their sound. Kathie has started writing songs and the band currently performs several of the songs she has written.

While they have performed a number of gigs back home, their venues have taken them to 15 states where they share their message of family togetherness and their faith in God.
