VSO announces concert schedule

20181128 Touch of Frost VSO w Chorale webThe Valley Symphony Orchestra recently announced the 2023-2024 masterworks concert season, “Musical Mystique.” The five-concert series will take place at the McAllen Performing Arts Center, and all concerts will be conducted by Maestro Peter Dabrowski.

“These five concerts are packed with an incredible variety of music,” said Katy Coy, VSO executive director. “We’re starting the season with Beethoven, Harry Potter is back by popular demand, and some beautiful works like Scheherazade and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” are also featured. There’s something for everyone this year.”

Annual Fall Pow Wow makes its return next weekend

20140301 Indian Pow Wow doug young 032 webThe Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas invites you to their 53rd Annual DAKEE SI (Fall Gathering) Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Pow Wow on Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Alton Community Center, 349 Dawes Ave. in Alton. Dancing and presentations will be held throughout the day. The event is free.

Visit the event to celebrate and experience American Indian culture, history, drumming, singing, and dancing. Vendors will be selling Native food, art, crafts, jewelry, supplies, and wares. There will also be raffles and cake walks. There is something for everyone.

Weslaco ITheatre at the Tower opens for auditions

20230905 iTheatre Weslaco webITheatre at the Tower opens for Auditions this week, Tuesday, September 5th and Thursday, September 7th from 6:30PM-8PM, located at 120 S. Kansas, Weslaco, TX 78596. This season’s production is “The Invasion of Earth as it began in Grover’s Mill, New Jersey” by J.R. Mimbs.

“The play is based around the infamous 1938 radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds. This event caused widespread panic because many people believed that it was real news. The play is focused on how people react to this event. Some, panic some turn on each other and others hold on to their humanity. Almost 100 years later and it is still a good reflection of ourselves” shared Steve Urbina, Director of ITheatre.

STC present second annual South Texas Latinx New Play Festival

Festival FlyerSouth Texas College (STC) Theatre & Dance will host their 2nd annual South Texas Latinx New Play Festival. The festival will be held Thursday, June 22 through June 24 at STC’s Cooper Center for the Performing Arts at 3200 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen.

The event showcases new plays written by Latinx playwrights throughout the US. Three plays out of thirty submissions were selected by a committee consisting of playwrights, theatre artists, and STC faculty & staff as festival finalists with five others selected as semifinalists. The intent of the event is to cultivate new plays which speaks to the Latinx perspective and experience.

95th Annual McAllen Independence Day Celebration invites community to participate

McAllen 95th Annual Independence DayThe City of McAllen is getting ready for this year’s McAllen Independence Day Celebration, presented by H-E-B, and is inviting the community to take part in all of the patriotic festivities. The 95th Annual Independence Day Celebration will take place on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 with an early morning 4K race, a patriotic program, immediately followed by the Main Street Parade and then the Freedom Festival, a family-friendly festival held at Archer Park. Music, food, and games will be highlights of the events. The event will conclude with the H-E-B Concert in the Sky Fireworks Extravaganza.

Texas Cook'Em High Steaks in Edinburg 2023 to bring country star Aaron Watson to RGV

Texas Cook'Em High Steaks is back and better than ever! The annual event will be held on June 30, through July 1, at Ebony Hills Golf Course. This year's event promises to be the biggest and best yet, featuring top musical acts, exciting attractions, and of course, some of the best Steak BBQ cook-off in Texas.

Headlining the free event were announced during a press conference hosted by the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. On Friday, June 30, is country music star Aaron Watson. With hit songs like "Outta Style" and "Kiss That Girl Goodbye," Watson is sure to put on an unforgettable show for fans of all ages.
