It has been a busy winter season for our staff here at the Winter Texan Times. Trying to keep up with all the many Winter Texan activities going on throughout the Rio Grande Valley keeps us on our toes. But we always have fun attending the activities and events held for our Winter Texan friends who come to the Valley each year.

We’ve enjoyed seeing you and visiting with you at so many different events, from the awesome RC car races at Alamo Palms MH Resort and the wood carving at Ranchero Village to the rock ‘n roll jam at Paradise Resort Estates and many other activities held every day in the RV parks and resorts.

Last weekend, we saw many of you attending the Texas Independence Day celebration in San Benito and the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes. Canada Day at the Riverside Club in Mission was a big hit again this year with hundreds of Canadians enjoying the celebration. And then there was the friendly USA vs Canada Senior Softball game held earlier this month.

We hope you had as much fun as we did at the Mega Winter Texan Fiesta hosted by the Mission Chamber of Commerce, which the Winter Texan Times helps sponsor as a big “Thank you Winter Texans” appreciation event featuring a full afternoon of live entertainment provided by some of the RGV’s top entertainers. This year’s entertainers included Terry Smith, Richard Lynch, Bill Chrastil, Johnny Ray Gomez, Mama’s Wranglers, Regan James and, of course, Rich Bellert, our favorite cowboy poet and emcee.

While thousands of you attended the Winter Texan Fiesta in Mission and other Winter Texan appreciation events hosted by many of the cities throughout the RGV, many more came out to enjoy BorderFest in Hidalgo and the McAllen Travel & Health & Wellness Expo.

Wasn’t the Valley Star Awards Show great this year? Robert and Billie Ferguson always bring in the area’s top performers to put on an incredible show for one great performance after another, all in one evening. If you missed it this year, make plans to come next year. It’s always held in early February and we’ll be announcing it for you in the Winter Texan Times.

There is so much more that happened this season, the Texas Citrus Fiesta, Brownsville’s Charro Days, the RGV Quilt Guild Quilt Show at South Padre Island, the Snowbird Extravaganza, the Golden Age Olympics, wood carving, RC racing, pickleball, petanque, bocce ball, shuffleboard tournaments, and the list goes on.

We hope you got a good dose of winter fun this season in the Rio Grande Valley. And we’d like to invite you to become a Winter Texan Ambassador this summer. All you have to do is take a few extra copies of the Winter Texan Times to share with your friends back home and invite them to come down for a visit in the fall to check us out. It’s always more fun when we do things with friends, so bring more friends down to South Texas so they can enjoy our tropical South Texas hospitality.

Where else can you go and not only enjoy the mild winter weather, good friends, and very affordable living, but all the activities designed just for Winter Texans? Did I mention the mariachi music and folklórico dancers, bloodless bullfights, Mexican Artisan Markets, dances and shows held right in your own resort or park, golf at bargain prices and great entertainers? And there’s so much more to tell your friends about.

We had a great time this season! We hope you did too. For those of you who are heading north soon, we wish you safe travels and a wonderful summer. We look forward to your return in the fall.
