Gordy & Debbie perform benefit for Children’s Haven
Gordy & Debbie are Branson performers who swing through the Rio Grande Valley during the winter months putting on shows that are full of vitality.
Their performance at their recent benefit for Children’s Haven International, an orphanage in Reynosa, Mexico that is home to abused or neglected children, helped raise over $4,000 for the orphanage. In addition to performing free of charge at the benefit, they also donated 20 percent of their CD sales to the orphanage and 100 percent of the sales of any CD purchases at the dinner.
Gordy performs with a level of energy that must have driven his teachers wild in school trying to channel it as he leaps off stages and bounces around the room singing to guests in the audience. He turned his hat to the side to make him look goofy, as he danced around the audience singing an old song about a prank telephone caller, “It’s Me Margaret.”
Debbie slowed the speed with a couple of songs from her mother’s favorite albums like, “Where the Boys Are” that she grew up singing.
While Debbie sang to the audience, Gordy disappeared and returned bouncing around inside of a massive costume called “Cousin Bubba,” who was a large Double X in size, but surprisingly light on his feet as he danced on the stage.
Debbie took the stage again before Gordy returned as himself, and sang “Amarillo By Morning” and other George Strait songs from the George Strait Tribute Show the couple does at the Jackie B Goode Diner in Branson, Missouri.
Though shorter than their full shows, the benefit gave a glimpse of what their shows are like and showed the loving hearts of a couple of performers who are willing to give back to the community in a big way.
Look for their schedule in the Winter Texan Times and remember, if you buy a CD, 20 percent of the proceeds will help the orphan children at Children’s Haven International.
