Beginning Thursday, April 5 Allied Waste, the City of Mission’s Sanitation Service provider, will be making a sweep of the area east of Conway to pick up brush, furniture and other debris from last Thursday’s storm.
Please have your items by the curb in front of your home or place of business by 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 5.
Allied Waste will be conducting debris removal April 5-11. After April 11 all remaining brush, furniture and debris will be picked up during regularly scheduled routes.
The Winter Texan Times recently ran a story about the different types of crafts that Winter Texans like to do while in the Rio Grande Valley. This week the paper is looking at some of the craft shows where Winter Texans sell their wares. The editor visited three different craft shows held Saturday, Mar. 3.
The 23rd Annual Texas Onion Fest is scheduled for March 24-25 at Weslaco City Park. This year’s event promises live entertainment, food and attractions that the Valley has grown to look forward to.
The Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the world famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco at the Texas A&M University Extension Service. The name of the 1015 onion came from the suggested planting date, October 15. The festival brings the community together for a fun-filled day of onion eating contests, cooking demonstrations, recipe contests, entertainment and much more. The festival reminds the community of Weslaco’s agricultural achievement.
With a reduced admission fee for Winter Texans on Wednesday, March 14, Winter Texans were everywhere enjoying the sights and sounds of the 2012 Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes, Texas.
Starting with the shop exhibits just inside the gate and in the first building, Winter Texans enjoying seeing the projects Texas students made.
Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge has all sorts of activities designed to appeal to nature enthusiasts planned for March and April.
Bayside tram tours include two and a half hours of riding through the refuge in an open-air tram. Tickets may be purchased at the visitor center for the tours held Sunday, Monday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A special twilight tram tour is offered the second Saturday of the month (April through September).
