When asked why she holds this event, Holly Smith tells this story. “I always wondered what I could do to give more back to other people and decided that this event would be a good way to help business while promoting better health. And then when I had doubts about whether I was doing any good or not, I started hearing testimonials from people returning to our event. I have been told numerous times from people that this event saved their lives. Many say they just came to this event for the fun, but once they did one of the many health screenings they found out that they were not as healthy as they thought. One man told me that if he had not done the eye screening, he would have never known about his medical problem and was told that he could have died in less than two weeks if he had not taken care of the problem that they found. That is amazing. Another man told me that if he had not done one of our screenings that he would have lost his leg. They caught the problem in time and he still “walks” to our event every year. So, hearing stories like this make it all worthwhile.”
This year, as a bonus to all who attend, there is a special drawing for a $500 H-E-B gift card. There will also be a drawing for rodeo tickets. This drawing is just for those who attend this event.
Entertainers scheduled to appear this year are Red Johnson & Friends, Midwest Bellows ‘N Brass, Ruthi, Sweetwater, Dave Williams and the Farnum Family. Back by popular demand is our John Wayne Impersonator Dr. Gene Howard, who always has a patriotic performance that makes everyone proud to be an American.
And of course, Winter Texans can dance along with the 5-6-7-8 Dancers who are very energetic dancers that always have a great time. This year’s show is dedicated in loving memory of Karen Weinberg, founder and leader of the 5-6-7-8 Dancers who recently passed away. The Winter Texan Expo & Health Fair is the largest senior event in the Rio Grande Valley. For information contact Holly Smith at 956-460-6887.
