Downtown Harlingen announces a new event, “Jammin’ on Jackson Street with Vance Greek & Friends,” to be held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month beginning Oct. 25, and continuing through March 2013. The jam sessions will be held inside the new facility, The Railroad Crossing, a model railroad clubhouse and family event center located at 101 E. Jackson in Downtown Harlingen. The jam sessions are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees also will receive discount coupons for downtown restaurants, shops and service businesses.
Well-known musician Vance Greek and friends will host the jam sessions, in which a wide range of local musicians will participate. It is anticipated that the music will be mostly country, folk, bluegrass and gospel. Musicians who are interested in participating should arrive with their instruments, at least 30 minutes before the session is set to begin. Three 30-minute sessions are planned each Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.
Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with the facility cleared after each show. There is plenty of free parking in the public lot directly behind the facility, on Monroe between 1st and 2nd Streets.
Jam-lovin’ Winter Texans may want to mark their calendars for Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Nov. 29, Dec. 13, Dec. 27, Jan. 10, Jan. 24, Feb. 7, Feb. 28, Mar. 14 and Mar. 28.
