American Music Roots Festival features top performers
The second annual American Music Roots Festival at the Chicken House Opry is bringing in some of the Valley’s top musical groups for a two-day festival, Feb. 8-9.
Kicking off the festival will be a lively performance by The Punches Family, named Bluegrass Entertaining Group of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
Next up will be another award-winning bluegrass group, Lindley Creek. The Greer family makes up this talented group. Whether it’s vocal harmonies, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, bass or guitar, they’ve got it all covered as they share their message of family togetherness and faith in God.
Just when you think it can’t get any better, then arrives The Alaska String Band to perform. This event is bluegrass heaven as this group takes the stage. But they often mix things up with a lively variety of old-time gospel, swing, blues, Celtic and original music thrown in. Their energetic dancing adds to the entertainment package.
“The Prisoner,” aka Bob “Punjo” Reed will take the stage to share his story of a man falsely convicted and imprisoned – a real-life experience that he tells through his music.
And there’s more.
In the afternoon, more Winter Texan favorites arrive, including Bob & Sheila Everhart, the Kenastons and The Farnum Family.
Chicken House Opry hosts Bob Reed and Lucy Jackson invite everyone out to the second annual American Music Roots Festival for two full days of music and dance designed to take the audience back to its American roots.
Tickets are $20 for the whole day or $30 for two days, and may be purchased at the Chicken House Opry or at the Winter Texan Times office located at 1217 N. Conway, Mission.
The Chicken House Opry is located six and three-fourths miles north Bentsen Palm Road. For those unsure of the location, a complimentary Opry bus will run every hour from Camping World on the corner of Bryan Road and the south frontage road to Expressway 83 in Mission. Runs start at 8:45 a.m. on both days.
