Gid-R-Done continues to raise money

Gid R DOne 2022 Band picture web The Rio Grande Valley Gid-R-Done Bluegrass Band is continuing to support St. Jude’s Research Hospital by entertaining throughout the Valley. The band donates their time, supplies, transportation, and entertainment to the organization.

In the seven years the group has been donating to the organization, they have almost reached $50,000 that they have helped raise for St. Jude’s. At a recent event, the group just reached over $48,000, and they still have several more events.

The talent and bravery of the matadors, Cayetano Delgado and “El Breco,” along with the bulls, was non-stop. The bulls never stopped charging and the matadors never gave in. This is what makes a great show for the fans, he added.

53rd Annual Pow Wow event planned

Picture4 web The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas invites you to their 53rd Annual NDE DAA (Spring) Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas Homecoming Pow Wow on Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Alton Community Center, 349 Dawes Ave. in Alton. Dancing and presentations will be held throughout the day. The event is free.

Celebrate and experience American Indian culture, history, drumming, singing and dancing from tiny tots to seniors. Vendors will be selling Native food, art, crafts, jewelry, supplies and wares. There will also be raffles and cake walks. There is something for everyone.

KiteFest breezy and bright

As I set out Saturday, I had made sure to check my weather app and bring an extra jacket, memories of last year’s KiteFest had me over-preparing as I’m not quite built for cold weather combined with the island wind. Luckily the cold front we had received was alleviating and I was greeted with a pleasant high in the 70’s. The wind was also more light and breezy than previously felt. Grateful for the positive change in the ever-changing Texas weather I left my extra jacket in the backseat and started to peruse the outdoor setup.

Everyone has a fishing story

This one started the summer of 2002 on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes near Richmond, MN.

My adult son, Dallas, was leaving the family cabin by boat to go to an island to set up an overnight camp out with some of his friends. Being young adults, they wanted to be fairly comfortable, so they had quite a lot of camping gear and supplies. So, he made a first run by boat to deliver firewood, tenting equipment, and some of the other gear. The second run was for the food, refreshments, and friends.

Rick McEwen's Kenny Rogers Tribute Show is a treat

After being told by friends in the entertainment business that “he looked a little bit like Kenny Rogers” and “sounded a little bit like Kenny Rogers,” Branson entertainer Rick McEwen decided to develop a tribute show to the famous singer. Thus, “The Gambler”’ show was born, honoring one of Rogers’ most famous songs.
The act has served him well. He was nominated for top vocalist of the year by the Branson Terry Awards, which he now helps produce.

Auction fans enjoy lively event at La Floresta

Each year, an auction is held at La Floresta Park in Mercedes. Some parks have Park Sales to get rid of unwanted stuff—we have an auction. Throughout the year, residents collect items to donate to the auction. We have really good stuff. The sale includes furniture, electrical appliances, printers, decorative pieces, dishes, golf clubs, golf balls, and more. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
