Now through March 9 – Charro Days will be celebrated in Brownsville. Parades will be held on February 28 and March 1. Most events occur on Elizabeth St. through historic downtown Brownsville. Now through March 29 – The Upper Valley Art League hosts its annual showcase, (Journey Through the Lens), exhibiting various styles of photography created by UVAL members. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Upper Valley Art League is located at 921 East 12th Street in Mission, next to Speer Memorial Library.

March 6 – Sift through South Texas ancient history at Quinta Mazatlán with resident geologist Nick Morales from 6 to 7 p.m. for a presentation centering on how geology influenced the manufacturing of lithic tools in south Texas and northern Mexico. March 7 – The Phantom and the Best of the Opera will be performed. The Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale will transform the stage into a tour de force of operatic classics. March 8 – The Gladys Porter Zoo hosts their annual 5K and one-mile fun run to support ocelot conservation. It will take place starting at 7:30 a.m., with the one-mile run starting at 8:30 a.m. in the zoo’s parking lot. The cost to participate is $35 or $30. March 8 – The Whole Life Wellness Center will host a Spirit and Wellness Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Explore a variety of vendors offering unique spiritual and wellness products, live music, delicious food, and seminars. March 9 – The City of Edinburg will host their annual Hometown for Heroes Half-Marathon at 7:45 a.m. This year’s event will feature a 10K, a Half-Marathon, and a Two-Person Relay. Runners have until March 6 to register. There are entry fees. Register online at cityofedinburg.com/active_edinburg/.
