The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce hosts Winter Texan Coffee Bar inside the Visitor Center Lobby from November to March. Free coffee and pastries, Monday – Friday. Winter Texans can come in and enjoy one of several educational movies we have on the RGV Sugar Growers, Historic Ranches of the RGV and nature videos.

February 5 – Texas Master Naturalist holds a volunteer fair at the Cameron County Annex from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitors are asked to park in the parking lot and enter through the building’s main entrance, which faces the parking lot. The parking lot is accessed from the frontage road. The building is located at Williams Road and Hwy. 83/77 in San Benito, 1390 W. Expressway 83.

February 5 - Mission Historical Museum will have a special screening of She Came to the Valley on Wednesday, February 5. The movie is based on Cleo Dawson’s novel of the same title. The book is about the “saga of a Dawson’s family battling for life and love along the raging Rio Grande.” It is said to be based on Dawson’s mother’s experiences. The film was shot in South Texas’ Rio Grande Valley and Oklahoma. In its first run it broke weekend attendance records at Rio Grande theatres. There will be two showings – 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $5, and it includes the book. Mission Historical Museum is located at 900 Doherty Ave.

February 6 – Alamo Rec Veh Park celebrates the 20th Anniversary of their "Quilt and Hobby Show" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1320 W. Frontage Rd., Alamo. Quilts and Hobby items made by residents in the park will be on display as well as a fabric vendor and a gentleman to do knife and scissor sharpening. A $2 donation at the door makes you eligible for multiple door prizes and a quilt to be drawn at 1 p.m. All proceeds go towards the "Helping Hands Sewing Group" in their effort to provide quilts, lap robes, crumb catchers and hats to the poor and elderly in the area.

February 6 – The seamless connection between botany and art will be illustrated at Quinta Mazatlan for Nights at the Mansion speaker series from 6 to 7 p.m. The program fee is $3 per person and no advance reservation is required. February 7 – The Fourth Annual Senior/Winter Texan Celebracion and Community Health and Wellness Expo will be held at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brownsville Events Center. February 8 – La Posada Providencia will hold their annual Hands and Hearts Brunch and Auction from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at La Sierra Event Center located at 3742 N. Expressway 77 in Harlingen. Tickets are $40 per person in advance or $45 at the door. Funds raised go to assist the hundreds of men, women, children and families who seek shelter at the facility. February 8 – Join Mission Historical Museum for sweets and light refreshments as they present their Lecture Series at 11 a.m. You might call W.F. Strong a student of all things Texas. In 2010, he began sharing his Stories from Texas vignettes on NPR stations, most recently on the Texas Standard's network of 30 stations. Celebrating his home state, Strong has collected 75 of his broadcasts. February 10 – Brett Marshall will present his Winter Concert Series, at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center, 309 E. February 11 – Sunshine RV Resort will hold their annual pet fun match dog show from 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the resort’s Friendship Hall. Event is free and open to the public with donations encouraged. February 13 – The Edinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) along with the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce (ECOC) will host its annual Winter Texan Appreciation Day at the Edinburg Activity Center located at 123 Palm Drive. There will be plenty of food, fun, live music and door prizes. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and tickets are only $5. Your purchase includes live music; brisket sandwich, border buttermilk and a chance to win door prizes.

February 15 – The International Museum of Arts and Science (IMAS) will hold a Winter Workshop from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Valerie Escamilla will present Milagros Hoop Art. Participants will learn about the folk art and create a mixed media work of art using Milagros, felt, and embroidery. The workshop is $10 and limited to 15 participants.
