Jan. 2 – Quinta Mazatlan presents “The Green Household” with Tiffany Kersten at 6 p.m., Admission, $2.

Jan. 3 – Edinburg Scenic Wetlands/World Birding Center, 714 Raul Longoria Road, Edinburg, will have a “New Year, New Gear” swap meet a 5 p.m. People may bring gently used sporting or birding equipment to exchange with others.

Jan. 3 – McAllen’s First Friday Artwalk, Main Street Art District, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free.

Jan. 4 – Quinta Mazatlan, the McAllen World Birding Center site, located at 600 Sunset Drive, will host a Native Plant Walk at 10 a.m. led by Ann Vacek, botanist. Admission.

Jan. 4 – Palo Alto National Battlefield, 7200 Paredes Line Road, Brownsville, presents a living history demonstration, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free admission. Call (956) 541-2785. Includes demonstrations of weapons of U.S.-Mexican War Era.

Jan. 8-9 – The 26th annual Travel Show will be held at the McAllen Convention Center Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at McAllen Creative Incubator, 601 N. Main, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 10 and 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 12.

Jan. 9 – Jammin’ on Jackson Street with Vance Greek & Friends at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Held at Railroad Crossing Model Railroad Club & Event Center, 101 W. Jackson, Harlingen.

Jan. 9 – The Senior Ambassadors welcome the Texas A&M Singing Cadets in a special concert to be held at Trinity Worship Center, 4801 N. Cage Blvd., and Pharr at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Auto Zone, 4131 N. 10th Street, McAllen, or from Don at (956) 581-2558 or any Senior Ambassador.

Jan. 9- Mar – Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum, 2425 Boxwood, holds opening reception 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 9 for traveling quilt show from National Quilt Museum in Paduca, Ky. Theme is Jacob’s Ladder. Museum is open Tues-Sat 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday p.m. 4 p.m. free. Donations accepted.

Jan. 11 – Texas Citrus Fiesta Product Costume Show will be held at the Mission Community Center, 1420 E. Kika de la Garza Loop, Mission at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5. Purchase tickets at Fiesta office, 220 E. 9th, Mission or at the door.

Jan. 11 – Port Isabel will host the 30th annual Longest Causeway Run stating at 10 a.m.

Jan. 11– Port Isabel Friends of the Library will sponsor a Boot Scootin’ dance and Chili Supper at Port Isabel Firemen’s Hall on Houston and Longoria Streets from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. $10 admission includes a bowl of chili, cornbread and tea or coffee. Tickets must be purchased in advance at Port Isabel Library or Island Reading Room.

Jan. 11 – San Benito Market Days, themed football mania, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Heywood Street.

Jan. 12 – The 19th annual Mission Health Community Health Fair will be held Jan. 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Sharyland High School Gymnasium, 1106 N. Shary Road in Mission.

Jan. 12 – Rio Grande Valley Concert Band will present a concert at Aladdin Villas west in Mission at 3 p.m.

Jan. 16 – Quinta Mazatlan, 600 Sunset Drive, McAllen, presents “Cooking Chefs” as part of the nature series at 6 p.m. Adults, $3, seniors, $2.
