Valley Calendar - From March 6, 2014 Issue

Mar. 6 -- Quinta Mazatlan, at 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen, presents “Attracting Purple Martins” by Mark Wright as part of the nature series. Admission: $3 adults, $2 seniors.

Mar. 6 -- The annual USA vs. Canada Winter Texan Softball World Series games will be held at Westside Park (across from the McAllen Convention Center on Ware Rd.) in McAllen. Games at 9 a.m. 10 a.m., and 11 a.m.

Mar. 7 --A combined concert featuring the Rio Grande Valley Concert Band, Men of A-Chord, Sweet Adelines and the Senior Ambassadors will be held at the Trinity Workshop Center in Pharr at 7 p.m. Tickets are available from the members of these groups. Admission is $7.

Mar. 7 -- McAllen’s First Friday Artwalk, Main Street Art District, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free.

Mar. 8 -- Children’s Haven International (Reynosa orphanage) will have a fundraising dinner at Rio Grande bible Institute, 4300 S. Bus. 281, Edinburg. Doors open at 4 p.m. for silent auction, bake sale, fashion show and drawing. Dinner plates will be sold from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for $8 with drink and dessert. Call (956) 787-7378 for information.

Mar. 8 -- San Benito Celebrates Texas Independence Day & Cook-Off with re-enactments of battles leading to Texas’ freedom from Mexico, South Texas Youth Stock Showgrounds on FM 510. Call (956) 361-3800 for information.

Mar. 13 -- Jammin’ on Jackson Street with Vance Greek & Friends at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Held at Railroad Crossing Model Railroad Club & Event Center, 101 W. Jackson, Harlingen.

Mar. 13 -- Quinta Mazatlan presents “Life of the Laguna Madre with Dolphins and Birds,” by Scarlet Colley, as part of the nature series. Adults $3, seniors, $2.

Mar. 13-16 -- Camille Lightner Playhouse, 500 East Ringgold Street, Brownsville, present “Steel Magnolias” at 8 p.m. Admission.

Mar. 16 -- The Rio Grande Valley Concert Band will present a concert at Paradise Park in Pharr at 3 p.m.

Mar. 18 -- “Valley Birds” by Fr. Tom Pincelli will be the subject of the Window to the Past Historical Society Speakers at 6 p.m., at The Museums of San Benito, 210 E. Heywood, San Benito. Free.
