Nov. 30-Jan. 1:  Santa Claus is coming to town in the Holiday Village in Brownsville, located at Dean Porter Park. Admission is free. Village hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Nov. 30-Dec. 3: The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s department of theatre will perform “Get Out and Play,” a play about playing at the theater for young audiences. Performances will be held Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m., Sunday.

Nov. 30 & Dec. 1: The City of Harlingen and Harlingen Convention Bureau will hold the Lighting of the Arroyo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at McKelvey Park, located at 1325 D. 77 Sunshine Strip in Harlingen. The Christmas Parade will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 beginning on Jackson St. in downtown Harlingen.

Nov. 30 & Dec. 1: The City of Edinburg, the Edinburg EDC and the Edinburg Chamber will hold the Night of Lights Parade on Friday, Dec. 1 at the Edinburg City Hall courtyard, located at 415 W. University Dr. The event kicks off Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the tree. The parade takes place at 6 p.m. beginning on the corner of University Dr. and Sugar Road and ends at the Hidalgo County Courthouse parking lot. For more information call (956) 383-4974.

Dec. 1: The City of South Padre Island and the SPI Convention Center will hold its Christmas Parade at 6 p.m., Friday. The route will be from Mars Ave. to Kingfish Ave. on South Padre Island.

Dec. 1: The City of Pharr will hold a Christmas Posada from 6 - 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 in downtown Pharr. There will be snow, ice-skating, Christmas music by Clueless and food. The event is free.

Dec. 1: The City of McAllen will hold its Christmas in the Park and Candlelight Posada from 5 p.m. To 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 and from noon to midnight on Saturday, Dec. 2 in McAllen Municipal Park, 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd., McAllen. Music will be performed by Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz and Los Musicales on Dec. 1. Solido will perform Dec. 2. The Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame Museum, the Budweiser Clydesdales and Heart of America Carnival will also be part of the event. Call (956) 681-3333 for information.

Dec. 1-2: The UTRGV Opera Theater will perform “The Ugly Princess” as part of its Special Event Series at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Performing Arts Complex, located at 1201 W. Dec. 1-Jan. 1:  The Hidalgo Festival of lights will be held the entire month of December at various locations throughout the city of Hidalgo but the Hidalgo City Hall, located at 704 E. Texano Dr., is a good starting location. Hidalgo Festival of Lights is the largest lighting display in Texas with more than 3 million lights and more than 500 large lighted displays on a 3-mile trail through Hidalgo. Dec. 2: The McAllen Holiday Parade will be held, Saturday, Dec. 2. The parade begins at 6 p.m. at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2001 N. Bicentennial Blvd., where reserved seating is available, and heads south to U.S. Business 83 where free seating is available along the route on a first-come, first-serve basis. Dec. 2: The City of Brownsville will hold its Holiday Lighting Ceremony from 6 - 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at Washington Park, located at 700 E. Madison St., Brownsville. There will be artisan vendors, elfish entertainment, games, a holiday movie at 7 p.m. (Elf, bring your lawn chairs) and more. The event is free. Dec. 2: The UTRGV Special Events series will present “Home For The Holidays” at the TSC Arts Center in Brownsville, located at 90 Taylor Ave. “Home for the Holidays” features the UTRGV Master Chorale, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Orchestra performing holiday favorites, music from Handel’s Messiah, sing-along carols, and more. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors (65+). Concert begins at 7 p.m.; pre-concert starts at 6:15 p.m. Visit for tickets.

Dec. 3: The UTRGV Special Event series will present Handel's Messiah at 3 p.m. Sunday at the TSC Arts Center, located at 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville. The UTRGV Master Chorale, Brownsville Festival Chorus, and high school choirs from Brownsville, San Benito, and Harlingen will perform the Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah with the UTRGV Symphony Orchestra. Dec. 4: The UTRGV Student Ensemble series presents the Brass Ensemble at 7 p.m. Monday at the Performing Arts Center, located at West University Drive in Edinburg. This concert will feature student brass ensembles from the UTRGV School of Music. The concert will feature music in a variety of settings from small chamber groups to a large brass ensemble. Dec. 5: The UTRGV Student Ensemble Series presents its University Choir at 7 p.m. At the Performing Arts Complex, located on West University Drive in Edinburg. The concert will feature mostly unaccompanied choral music including traditional classical repertoire by early composers such as Monteverdi, Palestrina and Bruckner; later composers such as Gjeilo, Lajos and Elberdin; and also folk songs from America, Latvia, Canada and South Africa. Dec. 5:  The Sky Tower Club will host Chamber Concert I - A Chopin Affair with guest artist, Dzmitry Ulasiuk, piano performance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sky Tower Club located on the 17th floor of the Chase Bank Tower in McAllen. Dec. 5,12: Border Theater Big Band performs every Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the theater, located at 905 N. Conway Ave., Mission. Admission is free and the dance floor is open.

Dec. 6-10:  The Pharr Community Theater will perform "A Tejano Christmas Carol," adapted and directed by Pedro Garcia, from Wednesday through Sunday, Dec. 6-10 at the theater, located at 213 W. Newcombe in Pharr. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for seniors and military. The show will be held at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday through Saturday, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Dec. 7: Quinta Mazatlan presents a Parula Winds Concert and Santa in the Park at 6 p.m. Quinta Mazatlan is located at 600 Sunset Dr. in McAllen. Admission is $3. There will be a little bit of Mozart’s marriage of Figaro and plenty of Christmas Carols too.

Dec. 7-10: Harlingen Community Theater presents Neil Simon's Barfefoot in the Park Thursday through Sunday at the theater, located at 1209 Fair Park Blvd., Harlingen. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Doors open two hours before curtain for ticket sales. Tickets are $15 for adults. There is a $2 transaction fee for credit/debit cards. The box office will be open from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 for ticket sales.

Dec. 8-17:  The Camille Playhouse presents Irving Berlin's musical White Christmas from Dec. 8-17 at the theater, located at 1 Dean Porter Park in Brownsville. Tickets are $20 for adults. There are also Winter Texan Specials for becoming a member. Call (956) 542-8900 for more information.

Dec. 9: The City of Port Isabel will hold its first Hometown Holiday Parade on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. The parade will take place in front of the Laguna Madre Youth Center on Port Road. The route will head east on Queen Isabella Blvd. and end at the Port Isabel Events Center. The annual Christmas Lighting will take place at 7 p.m. at Beulah Lee Park. Dec. 16 & 17: First United Methodist Church of La Feria will host its Live Nativity on Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The church parking lot transforms into the town of Bethlehem.
