FromthepublisherAs we come to the close of another wonderful winter season in the Rio Grande Valley we look back on all the great times we have enjoyed with you, our Winter Texan friends. We so much enjoy seeing you come down to deep South Texas each year to get away from the cold weather, but also to be with friends and neighbors.

After 31 years as publisher of the Winter Texan Times, I am still amazed at your zeal for life, your love of country and your caring nature. You make me proud to be the publisher of a newspaper that serves people who have earned my deep respect and appreciation for who you are and the values you bring to our local communities all across the Rio Grande Valley.

You volunteer in our schools and hospitals. You donate to our food pantries. You provide vital support for our orphanages and children’s homes – on both sides of the border. You even build homes and deliver weekly food supplies to impoverished families in Mexico.

When you leave for the summer, you leave behind a big void that no one else can fill.

Yet, you balance all that with having fun. What a great time you have doing dozens of different activities in your resorts and parks and at community festivals and events.

We enjoy catching you in action as we visit your rock ‘n roll jams, country western dances, RC car races, petanque, bocce ball, shuffleboard and pickleball tournaments. Then of course, there are the nature hikes, bird watching, craft shows, quilt shows and woodworking shows and projects – and the list goes on.

As you head north, we hope you’ll become a Winter Texan Ambassador and tell your friends and family about all the good times you had this winter. Whatever you enjoy doing in the Rio Grande Valley – whether it’s getting out to play golf several times a week (when the folks up north are dealing with snow and ice) or taking daily bike rides or testing out your new remote control car on the racetrack – tell your friends about it.
And let ‘em know we really do appreciate our Winter Texans. We miss you when you’re gone, and we surely look forward to your return in the fall.
Have a great summer! And hurry back and see us. We’ll be waiting for you.
