201081205 McAllen Wind EnsembleIt wasn’t the Grinch who stole Christmas after all – it was the McAllen Wind Ensemble – and at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14 they will retell the story with their musical performance “How the McAllen Wind Ensemble Stole Christmas” at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature beautiful Christmas music from all genres to put the audience in the holiday mood.

As the title suggests, expect to hear some “Grinch-iness” sneak into the program. The Rio Grande Valley Children’s Chorus will assist the ensemble as a special guest artist.

The Rio Grande Valley Children’s Chorus (RGVCC) is a non-profit chorale group made up of children ages 7-16 from across the Rio Grande Valley. The RGVCC is a passion project of Julito Pepito and Mildred Molito. Both directors have their own adult church choirs. After a show in 2012, when they both brought children for musical presentations, they explored the idea of a combined children’s choir, and the RGVCC was created,

The choir sings regularly at the Sacred Heart Parish of Edinburg, but they have also been invited to participate in several musical programs in the area for the past five years. The RGVCC has performed for the Diocese of Brownsville, the Philippine Independence Day celebration in McAllen, at several Marian masses, Advent masses and Christmas pageants. Recently they were front acts at The Voice of Hope Concert for the Haiyan victims and the Tom Booth concert of the Sacred Heart Parish. The group has also traveled to Dallas to sing at the mass during the Couples for Christ 2014 National Convention, as well as to Rockport, Texas to participate in the annual Marian pilgrimage and Santacruzan at the Schoenstatt Shrine.

The concert will also feature special appearances by Santa Claus and that cuddly as a cactus and charming as an eel, mean old Mr. Grinch. Both beloved characters will be available before the concert for photos with children of all ages.

Tickets start at $10 and are available at the McAllen Convention Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, and at the door the night of the concert. For more information, visit our website at www.mcallenwindensemble.org or call (682) 227-2101.
