20190123 AbbaFab WHP AbbaFab13Winter Texans know a good deal.

That's one of the main reasons they return to the Rio Grande Valley every year.

They also love the weather and the entertainment.

So, what better event than WinterFest at Schlitterbahn on South Padre Island. This year’s WinterFest Music Festival will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Schlitterbahn-South Padre Island. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate, which includes no only the fabulous entertainment lineup, but also a delicious meal at the Shrimp Haus Restaurant.

Just the entertainment is worth more than the price of admission – and they feed you!

Dubbed Winter Texan “Spring Break,” the music festival includes all day music, dancing, raffles and other vendors plus a fish and shrimp basket with hush puppies and cole slaw.

The annual tradition brings in close to 1,000 people each year on South Padre Island and many stay at the Schlitterbahn Beach Resort and make a weekend trip out of it. For the event, resort room reservations are just $59 plus taxes.

TavieArtists performing include AbbaFab, a stunning tribute to the music of ABBA featuring the sensational Anne Davies, Chelsea Faulds, Scotty Pearson and Nick Davies. This multimedia production is a tribute to some of the greatest music produced in the 1970s and 1980s including monster hits such as “Waterloo,” “Fernando,” “Honey Honey,” “Dancing Queen” and countless others. Also performing are some of South Texas' finest including Jeff Gordon, Leslie Blasing, Lobo del Mar, Diego, Tavie’s Rock-n-Roll Show and Jason “The Piano Man” Whorlow. The event is hosted by Gary Crain.

Schlitterbahn South Padre Island also hosts a slew of dinner shows with low rates, all of which include a three-course meal featuring a salad, dessert, choice of steak, chicken or seafood option (complete with two sides provided by the Shrimp Haus Restaurant) and a nearly two-hour performance. The lineup this year includes: AbbaFab (a tribute to Abba), Leslie Blasing, Jumping Jack Flash (the ultimate Rolling Stones tribute band), Lobo del Mar and Jason Whorlow.

For our northern visitors in the Valley this winter, Valentine’s also offers a unique option – including a four-course meal at the resort for just $79 per couple ($129 per couple includes a night’s stay.)

For tickets or more information, call (956) 772-7873, or go to and visit the lodging section under resort activities for more details.
