20190206 Matadora Rocio Morelli origLa Gloria, Texas – Santa Maria Bullring owner Fred Renk is impressed with the down to earth, humble attitude of Matadora Rocio Morelli, of Bogota, Columbia.

“It is special because she is who she is, so quiet and reserved and humble. I asked why are you so quiet and humble. She answered, ‘Don’t ever think you’re better than anyone else who faces death in the ring. The bulls give you fame and in one second can take it away.

“She's the real thing, the real McCoy, and she is fantastic, Renk said. “I am so impressed with her mannerism, it brings me back to see what I have missed with the performers the last few years. When she looked at the bulls she said, ‘They are beautiful, Don Fred; it is an honor to be here with such a celebrated man as yourself.”

She remembers David Renk, the son of Fred Renk, saying he was truly an American icon. "I saw him in Peru years ago when I was so young."

“She is the best of the best. I know she’ll blow this place away,” said Fred Renk.

Santa Maria Bullring and Ole Entertainment LLC present the best card of the year for the bloodless bullfight season at Santa Maria Bullring in La Gloria, Texas. The woman Matadora Rocio Morelli is one of only four active women bullfighters in the world.

“She displays complete dominance when in action. You won't want to miss this tremendous card when she appears with huge bulls Saturday, Feb. 9 in the La Gloria bullring,” Renk said.

Sharing the card will be the great Manolo Martinez, called "El Mexicano de Oro." In years past, never have two as famous as these two ever performed together. They have appeared all over the world, and it has the potential to be the best performance ever scheduled in the Santa Maria bullring, Renk said.

What makes it so special? The bulls, he explained. They are from the dynasty of Martinez and are the largest in size and horn that can be presented. In fact, they are heavier than the bulls that are presented on the Mexican border in Juarez or Tijuana. Here they are not touched by picador or blade. They can only be fought once and from here they go to the PBR Rodeo circuit and chase the clowns for the rest of their life. Such is the great life we have scheduled for them, said Renk.

Tickets are available by reservation. Call 1-956-481-3300 and pay when you arrive. Gates open at 1 p.m. with food, bar and entertainment prior to the bullfight. The bullfight starts at 4 p.m. sharp.

Children under 12 are free. Ticket prices are $30 per person for sunny side, $35 for shady side, and $40 for covered ringside seats.

Mario Ordaz and his beautiful dancing horse “Guapo” will perform as well.
