20190227 Borderfest GU6C0A1148South Texas’ largest music, culture and heritage festival, “BorderFest,” kicks off this weekend at the Hidalgo BorderFest Fairgrounds, located next to the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. The three-day festival, held March 1-3, is packed with entertainment, food, vendors and parades.

The festival officially begins at 9 a.m., Friday with the Traditional Abrazo and Square Dance in Reynosa at the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge. This is a free family event offering a Mexican lunch, drinks, souvenirs, mariachi folklore and many other surprises. This event is sponsored by the City of Reynosa and the City of Hidalgo.

The Budweiser Grand Parade will take place Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m., and an Illuminated parade will take place on both Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for a one-day pass for adults, and $5 for children, ages 3-12. A 3-Day Mega Pass is also available for $25 per person. Fairgrounds pre-sale tickets can be purchased online, at Hidalgo City Hall or at the State Farm Arena Box Office prior to the Hidalgo BorderFest Festival. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate for daily entry.

A purchased fairgrounds admission ticket grants the patron access to the family boardwalk, carnival, shopping and all other fairgrounds attractions.

The fairgrounds will be open Friday, March 1, from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday, March 2, 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.; and Sunday, March 3, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Call 956-843-2286 for more information.

Winter Texan Entertainment Lineup

Some of our Winter Texan entertainers will be performing at BorderFest in Hidalgo Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3.

On Saturday, March 2, at 12:30 p.m. Tim Hadler will be singing for your pleasure. Tim is new to the Valley and is looking forward to seeing you and making new friends. Take Two with Ray & Jane Kumor will take the stage at 1:15 p.m. bringing some of your favorite music to life. You'll love her beautiful voice and their great harmony. At 2 p.m. Hot Rodz will take the stage and give you a rocking good time. A newer band in the area they are eager to share their music with you.

On Sunday, March 3, Helen Russell & Co. will liven up the stage with their energetic show. Last week, Helen Russell & Co. was named the Individual/Small Band-Variety Group of the Year at the Valley Star Awards for 2019. You'll love the enthusiasm they bring to the stage. At 1:15 the Valley Star Awards Male Entertainer of the Year, Rusty Rierson, will bring his special – and very popular – kind of music to you. This is his first year in the Valley and he has a great following already. At 2 p.m. Kainoa Kamaka "Kai" brings his ukelele magic and energy to the stage. He is also new and gaining a huge fan base. We're sure you will love him too.
