Texas Citrus Fiesta has their schedule for this year’s events up and is ready to put on a show this year. They do have a stipulation that the schedule is subject to change, so please visit their website or call if you have an questions.
The first event of the year is their Product Costume Show. The event will be held on Saturday, January 16, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mission Event Center. The Center is located at 2425 Ruby Red Blvd. Tickets are $5 per person.
The Product Costume Show features participants dressed in outfits they have made by using local agriculture products. Over the years, participants have used burnt citrus peel, purple onion skins, mesquite sawdust, and dehydrated citrus leaves to create one-of-a kind costumes that go along with the year’s theme. This year’s them is Let Your Dream Blossom.
On Saturday, January 23, the Royal Reception will take place at Balli’s Terrace Event Center. The Royal Reception features duchesses dressed in gowns representing their city or an agricultural product. Duchess names include Star Ruby, Pink Grapefruit, International Goodwill, Poinsettia, Marsh White, Oleander, Orange, Live Oak, Butterfly, Bluebonnet and so many more that represent the Rio Grande Valley and the City of Mission and its surrounding communities.
This is an opportunity for the ladies to show their poise and walk the runway in their beautiful dresses before the coronation event the following week. The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $50. The Event Center is located at 1509 Industrial Blvd.
The Coronation of King Citrus and Queen Citrianna will take place on Thursday, January 28. The event recognizes the new court that will be in place for next year’s event. Again, the ladies will be introduced and then await to see who will be crowned.
The King Citrus will also be crowned. King Citrus is traditionally an individual that has helped the agriculture business in the Valley.
The event will take place at Mission High School’s Neuhaus Gym, from 7 to 10 p.m., at 1802 Cleo Dawson.
The cap of the Texas Citrus Fiesta events is the Parade of Oranges. The parade will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. Floats will line up at FM 495 and travel south down Conway Ave. to 1st St.
If you still want to sign up to have a float in the parade, deadline is January 18. The TCF has categories for Winter Texan floats as well as other categories. There are several guidelines to follow including the fact that ¼ of the float needs to be decorated with citrus or displayed on the float. Guidelines and application are available on their website.
