VMHS Harlequins rock out with Rock of Ages production

Let the VMHS Harlequins take you back in time with their production featuring music from some of the best 1980's musical groups.

Come out and Rock with the VMHS Harlequins as they present the Broadway Rock and Roll spectacular Rock of Ages! With music from Journey, Foreigner, Guns and Roses and more, this is a show that you don't want to miss.

Performances will be held at the VMHS Performing Arts Center on December 5 through 7 at 7p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the VMHS Front Office from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. beginning on Monday, December 2. Tickets can also be purchased when doors open at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

MHS ENCORE Theatre presents The Wizard of Oz

20191106 Wizard Of Oz Poster 1 MHSThe Mission High School (MHS) ENCORE Theatre is proud to present one of the most famous stories of all time, The Wizard of Oz. Cast and crew have been busy creating what they hope will become an MHS theatrical triumph. The production features Noevelyn Garza, Edwin Velazquez, Jacob Barrera, Juan Segovia, and Ivan Gonzalez.

Showtime is 7 p.m. on November 14, 16, and 21. A special matinee performance is scheduled for 2 p.m. on November 17.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the door prior to the show. The MHS campus is located at 1802 Cleo Dawson, Mission.

DHS present the Wizard of Oz

Join Donna High School students somewhere over the rainbow for their season opener, The Wizard of Oz. The 2019-2020 Donna Drama Theatre Company season opens on November 13 at the Simon Sauceda Performing Arts Auditorium.

The Students, under the direction of Angel O. Leal and Juan Arriaga, bring to life this classic tale of brains, heart and courage. Senior actors Molly Hunt, Anabel Hernandez, Alena Coronado and Francisco Ortiz lead the way for their final season by taking the audience on a journey they will never forget.

You won’t want to miss out on this fantastic journey running November 13-17. Shows will start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. The Sunday show will start at 1 p.m., with doors opening at 12 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults.

LJISD present Three School/One Voice

Magallon PhotographyLa Joya ISD is pleased to present Three Schools/One Voice, a Mariachi & Folklórico extravaganza that showcases the musical and dance talents of La Joya HS, Juarez-Lincoln HS, and Palmview HS, and all on one stage. The performance will feature each school group individually, with a finale that brings all three groups together for an “All-Star” performance.

Rio Grande Valley Vipers announce 2019-2020 season

The 2018-19 NBA G League Champions, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, have announced their 2019-20 schedule and look to defend their title. This year’s schedule features a total of 50 games, including 24 home games at Bert Ogden Arena, 24 games on the road and two games at the NBA G League Showcase.

The Vipers open the season with back-to-back games versus Austin Spurs, NBA Spurs affiliate, starting off at Austin on Friday, November 8. Then, the Vipers will host the Spurs for the home opener at Bert Ogden Arena on Saturday, November 9.

This season’s home opener will embrace the 2018-19 NBA G League Champions by presenting the Vipers their championship rings and the hanging of the third championship banner.

This season’s home schedule will also feature themed night games honoring the local community. On December 17, the Vipers will host an 11 a.m. Kid’s Day Game versus Memphis Hustle. The annual Kid’s Day Game rewards students through the team’s Perfect Attendance and Honor Roll programs.

The Vipers will also hold the 10th Annual All-Valley Showcase on March 28th. Top RGV high school boys and girls will compete east against the west prior to the Vipers final regular-season home game versus Austin Spurs.

This 2019-20 G League season will consist of seven back-to-back games. The Vipers will host 10 weekday games and 14 weekend games; a total of five Friday games and nine Saturday games at 7:30 p.m. There will be seven Tuesday games, one Wednesday and two Thursday games at Bert Ogden Arena all with a 7 p.m. tip-off.

The RGV Vipers are the winningest G League team with three championships; 2010, 2013 and 2019.

The McAllen Wind Ensemble Celebrates 45 Years

20191014 McAllen Wind Ensemble 03The McAllen Wind Ensemble, under the baton of Music Director Roger Olivarez, will open their 45th season with a concert dedicated to our American heroes. This exciting start to the 2019-20 season will be held Tuesday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. on the McAllen Performing Arts Center stage. All veterans, current service members, and first responders are invited to be guests of the McAllen Wind Ensemble with free admission to the concert.

The event, entitled simply “America” will feature the music of America, American composers, and the patriotic favorites that have been the McAllen Wind Ensemble’s standard fare throughout the years. The ensemble will perform music by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Morton Gould, Frank Ticheli, and of course no concert would be complete without the marches of John Philip Sousa.

The McAllen Wind Ensemble’s special guest artists for the evening will be the Magic Valley Chorus chapter of the Sweet Adelines. The Magic Valley Chorus is an all-female barbershop chorus under the direction of Sandy Seitz. The chorus began in November 1990 and has been going strong ever since. The Magic Valley Chorus are active performers in the Rio Grande community and have won frequent awards for their performances. The McAllen Wind Ensemble is excited to share our concert with these talented ladies of song.

HCA brings touring artists to their stage

Some of this year’s acts include Broadway Bound, The Maxwell Quartet, Sons of Serendip, Dan Miller’s Cowboy Music Revue, Sail On – Beach Boys Tribute and Burlap to Cashmere.
