20180215 PHS Folklorico Pic 2The Herencia Hispana (Hispanic Heritage) performances by the Palmview High School Mariachi Los Lobos Y Grupo Folklórico Ozomatli will give the audience a true taste of Mexico as they showcase the magic and diversity of Hispanic culture.

The group will present their spring concert “Herencia Hispana” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Alejandro “Alex” H. Saenz Performing Arts Center, located at 604 Coyote Drive, La Joya.

20180215 PHS MagallonPhotography 1067Audience members will be delighted by the colorful and flamboyant costumes and beautiful instrumentation and vocals. The shows are especially popular among Winter Texans, who keep coming back to La Joya ISD’s performances year after year.

“I was here a few years ago, and those kids are amazing,” said Frank Sokol, of Ontario, Canada “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.”
Both the mariachi and folklórico groups have been invited to represent Texas at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. in May. The mariachi has recently been selected as a finalist for the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators and UIL State Mariachi Contest by receiving a Superior Division 1 rating. The groups were also named 6A State Champions in 2011 and 2015 and performed for President Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration Parade.
