20180308 Indian Pow Wow dy 037The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas will hold the 48th Annual Dak' ee si Pow Wow Saturday, March 10, at the Lark Library & Community Center in McAllen.

The Pow Wow will highlight the American Indian culture and history with drumming, singing and dancing by native Americans – many of whom will be wearing their colorful tribal regalia. Everyone is invited for a day of celebration and excitement.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday, There will be a Grand Entry of all Indians at 1 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Gourd Dancing demonstrations will be held at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Aztec dancers will perform at 12 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. and the Sayani dancers will perform at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

There is something for everyone including cake walks, raffles, American Indian jewelry, dream catchers, arts and crafts, beads, and leather goods. Take home some jewelry making supplies and beads, and enjoy a snack from the food booth.

For anyone who has ever wanted to dance with the Indians, some dances are open to audience participation. There will be a variety of activities throughout the day including Gourd Dancing.

The event is sponsored by the Grace Brethren Church, Son Tree Native Path and the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas.

The Lark Community Center is located at 2601 Lark Ave. at the corner of 29th Street and Lark Avenue.
