The time is fast approaching for the big Winter Texan Fiesta in Mission, as the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, City of Mission, Mission Historical Museum and Shary Municipal Golf Course all pull together to put on the biggest Winter Texan appreciation event of the season. Mark your calendars for Feb. 15 and 16 and make plans to come to Mission for the celebration.

Folks have been asking when they can pick up tickets for the free lunch, which is provided by the Mission Chamber. C.J. Sanchez, Mission Chamber vice-president, has announced that tickets will be available at the chamber office, located at 202 W. Tom Landry, beginning Monday, Feb. 11. The number of lunch tickets is limited to 2,500, first come, first serve, and they always seem to run out each year, as this is a very popular event.

“We want all of our Winter Texan friends to know how much we appreciate them choosing the Rio Grande Valley, and especially Mission, as their winter home each year. So, we are rolling out our South Texas hospitality in the best way possible – with a free concert and lunch on Saturday, a Winter Texan Golf Tournament on Friday and the Artesano Market Days hosted by the Mission Historical Museum on both days, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16,” Sanchez said.

This year the Artesano Market Days and the Winter Texan Fiesta concert will be held at the new Mission Event Center, located at 200 N. Shary Road, Mission. The Artesano Market will take place from 12 to 7 p.m., Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday inside the Event Center. Visitors will enjoy an array of local and Mexican artists and vendors from various states in Mexico with products such as handcrafted textiles, jewelry, artwork, decorative candles, candies and specialty gifts. Several food vendors are expected again this year, as well. Admission is free.

The free outdoor concert begins at 12:30, Saturday with opening ceremonies. The concert features several popular entertainers, including Bob Dolle & Friends, Kody Norris Bluegrass Band, William Florian, and Eldon Hardekopf & South Texas Whiskey Band. The Mission High School Mariachi will also perform. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and plan on enjoying a great show.
