As we approach the end of another winter season, it is time to say farewell to many of our Winter Texan Friends who will be leaving soon. Before you go, we want to thank you for choosing the Rio Grande Valley as your winter home.

We are always delighted to see so many of you come to the Valley each year to enjoy the warm weather, the friendly people, the modest cost of living and the many, activities and entertainers here to make your stay all the more enjoyable.

We enjoy having you here as our neighbors so much that we want to invite more Winter Texans to come down next season. And we’d like to invite you to become a Winter Texan Ambassador. The job description is pretty simple. Just tell your friends back home how much you enjoyed your stay in the Rio Grande Valley and invite them to come down with you next fall – even if it’s for just a week or two. Once they experience how much fun Winter Texans have, they’ll want to come back, year after year.

So, pick up some extra copies of the Winter Texan Times to take home with you to share with your friends. And be sure to tell them about the fun activities you enjoy in your park, such as jam sessions and professional entertainers, craft sales and pancake breakfasts, dinners and ice cream socials, movie nights and special park activities.

Did I mention dances? Country dances, variety dances, square dances, round dances. You name it and you can find it – if not in your park, then there’s probably another park just down the road that offers just what you like.

Depending on the park or resort where you stay, you probably have some great park amenities to enjoy such as a swimming pool, billiards, wood working shops, RC racetracks, and yes, even shuffleboard.

We keep hearing from folks that they’ve been to Arizona and Florida, but they love coming to the Rio Grande Valley because the people are more friendly, the cost of living is less expensive (including the great entertainment at bargain prices), and the short distance to neighboring park activities makes it easy to enjoy many different shows and events. So, tell your friends back home about all these great reasons for coming to the Valley.

Of course, one of the best parts of being a Winter Texan is making new friends here who share much in common, and becoming part of the community in your favorite RV or mobile home resort. So, let your friends know about all the friends you have made here and how much fun it is to enjoy these activities together with good friends.

We hope you will become our Winter Texan Ambassadors and help us spread the good word about the Rio Grande Valley. Take some extra copies of the Winter Texan Times with you to share with your friends up north. Our March 30 edition will be a special “Take Home Edition” filled with lots of information about the Rio Grande Valley and why Winter Texans enjoy coming here year after year. If you can share 10 or more copies of the paper, give us a call a few days in advance and we will reserve some extra copies for you. If you are leaving the Valley before March 30, just pick up some extra copies of any issue of the Winter Texan Times to show folks back home. And you can always show them our digital editions online at www.wttrgv.com or www.wintertexantimes.com.

On behalf of the RV resorts, mobile home parks, local businesses and cities and towns all across the Rio Grande Valley, we want to let you know how much we appreciate our Winter Texans. You are important to us and we hope we have made you feel welcome. You are our friends, and we will miss you when you leave.

Have a wonderful summer. Be safe! And we look forward to your return in the fall.

Warm regards,

Jim Brunson
