The Ultimate Place for Breakfast...

                              and Lunch and Dinner

20171019 TOV Dennys

Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Anytime is a great time to head over to Denny’s for a great-tasting meal.

After my daughter’s volleyball game, we headed over to Denny’s for “breakfast.” Good choice!

The look on my 14-year-old daughter's face as she bit into her first Moons over My Hammy sandwich at the Denny's located at 2301 W. University Dr. in Edinburg said it all.

Her eyes closed, the corners of her mouth turned upward and, after a long and stressful day that included school and a huge volleyball match (they won), she relaxed – the sandwich became her comfort food.

The sandwich is made with ham and scrambled eggs, topped with American and Swiss cheese, and placed between crunchy grilled sourdough bread. But, like something your mom makes, it just can't be replicated; there is no substitute.

Denny's has an incredible variety. There are burgers, steaks, chicken, sandwiches...the list goes on – even for dessert. But for me and Camilla, breakfast will always be king at Denny's – 24 hours a day.

Camilla's reaction to the sandwich brought back memories of my first trip to a Denny's in the early 1990s in Florence, S.C. The sandwich caught my attention because of the Betty Grable film “Moon Over Miami.” It immediately became my favorite menu item.

Today, I have several favorites at Denny’s. This time I ordered the Ultimate Omelette. It was ultimate goodness. The three-egg omelet with crumbled sausage, bacon, fire-roasted bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, diced tomatoes and shredded cheddar cheese was a tasteful treat and a breakfast for royalty. Served with crispy hash browns and toasted wheat bread, this omelet is competing for my favorite Denny's breakfast, along with about five other items.

Denny's was founded back in 1953 in Lakewood CA as Danny's Donuts, in 1959 Danny's Donuts renamed to Denny's.

The coupons in today's edition of the Winter Texan Times are valid at any location in the Rio Grande Valley. Camilla and I will be sure to visit them quite often in the future, especially when we want breakfast – which is pretty much all the time.
