Many have special entertainment lined up with a dinner. So many of these parks sell out of tickets weeks before New Year’s Eve. So, if you didn’t get a ticket in time and are still looking for things to do, there are a few cities having some celebrations you can join in on. South Padre Island puts on a good fireworks show. New Year’s Eve is just a little different, with a bigger show to celebrate the ringing of a new year. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. There are celebrations throughout the island at several locations too. The big show will be held in the Entertainment District at 211 W. Whiting St. The City of Pharr will have their annual New Year’s Eve ball drop. The city is inviting residents to ring in the new year with live music featuring the Spazmatics and La Castera, a firework display, a vendor market, and more. The ball drop event will also feature a drone show. The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Pharr. While not exactly New Year’s Eve related, many cities still have their Christmas lights out for visitors to enjoy. Holiday Village in Brownsville will still have their little cottages all up and decorated until January 1. You can visit their website at https://holidayvillagebrownsville. com/. Hidalgo Festival of Lights will also have their events through January 1. Find out more information on their website at https://www.hidalgofestivaloflights.com/. The City of Edinburg has their lights out for you to enjoy as well. They can be seen at the City Hall Promenade and will be lit until January 2. You can see the lights by going to 201 W. McIntyre St. in Edinburg. The Leo Pena Placita Park is all lit up at Bus. 83 and Conway in Mission. Enjoy lights, décor, and displays throughout the park. City of McAllen will have their digital tree and oval park lit up at the McAllen Convention Center. Most of the Valley cities will still have their lights on in their main parks throughout Christmas and into January. I invite you to drive around and see the lights, not only in your neighborhood, but your city as well. Have a great and safe New Year!! Photo by Anastasia Brunson
