The event will honor Lakewood Park Veterans and Veterans from SunWest Mobile Park. The Veterans will be honored with Quilts of Valor made by the quilters at the park. For questions, call Ann Register at (815) 325-3875. The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 with a dream. The founder’s son was deployed in Iraq, and she had a dream she wanted to bring to life. It was about a young man, hunched over on the side of his bed, with feelings of despair. She could see his war demons dragging him down into an emotional gutter. She then saw him wrapped in a quilt and his whole demeanor changed from one of despair, to one of hope. The message was quilts equal healing. Now, volunteers from all over the US gather together to donate their time and materials to make quilts and give to Veterans and service members.
