The Hidden Wok: Fast, friendly lunch service with something for everyone With a selection of traditional Chinese dishes, the Hidden Wok has something for everyone. At this small, quaint restaurant in Donna, you can choose from menu entrees – beef and broccoli, kung-pao chicken, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, or sweet and sour chicken; or if you are looking for something different, try their build your own offerings by selecting your protein of chicken, beef, or shrimp and sauce. All meals are served with either steamed rice or Chow Mein noodles. You can upgrade to fried rice or mixed rice. If you are like me and just can’t seem to decide, you can order one, two, or three entrée plates. We learned the mixed rice was a meal unto itself with generous portions of chicken, beef, and shrimp added to their fried rice made with egg and mixed veggies. We also tried their orange chicken and beef and broccoli. The food was freshly made to order and came out piping hot, and the portion sizes were enough to take some home for dinner that evening. The orange chicken was made with a sweet orange flavored chili sauce which thickened and caramelized to a glaze. The beef and broccoli was served in a rich soy sauce. They also have vegetable egg rolls, but we just didn’t have room enough to try them. On our next visit we’ll have to try those and the noodles with a couple of their other dishes. The Hidden Wok is located at the Val Verde Flea Market, 935 W. Bus. 83 Ste. 20, just around the corner from Biscuits & Gravy Neighborhood Kitchen (entrance is on the west side of the building). Although a bit hidden, thus the name, you can easily find the orange building. They are open Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and closed Monday and Thursday. You can contact them at (956) 5328733. GME From pg. 3 Even You Ministries, and a steel guitar player and his wife also joined in. The group of musicians played off of each other throughout the show. They cracked some jokes, did some church comedy, and played some of the most widely known hymns. Many in the audience were singing along, clapping, and raising their hands up in praise. One man said, the event should have been more packed because these individuals were good to hear and shared a great message. I couldn’t agree more. One of the highlights of the show was Scott Roberts and his piano playing. He might be little, but his hands are blessed with the talent of playing the keys. He played a beautiful rendition of How Great Thou Art and a few other classic hymns. Scott was born with a brittle bone disease, and his parents were told he would not have a fulfilling life. He shared his conversion story on how since he accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 12, he hasn’t had another broken bone. When he was young, he often felt left out because he couldn’t play sports or go outside and play with the other kids because he might get hurt. At a young age, someone put a piano in front of him and he, surprising his parents, plucked out Jesus Loves Me. It was then they realized he might be able to do something with his hands. They tried several different instruments, Scott said. One Christmas he was even given a violin that somehow disappeared after a few months. It was at six-years-old he began playing piano by ear and music became his friend. He believes God has called him to tell everyone about the love of Jesus Christ and that is what he does through his music and ministries. He said “God never made a mistake” with him. It was a “What are we going to do with this one?” And they made this one for a purpose, he says. Scott added that miraculously his fingers have never been broken before – “I can use them.” “God put that broken boy that didn’t think he was going to have a life a way to play the piano.” And so, Scott uses his fingers to do a lot of the talking as he shares his testimony, the love he has for Jesus Christ, and above all, the love Jesus has for him and all of us.
