This exciting evening of music and movement is made possible through the generous support of the McAllen Performing and Cultural Arts Foundation, an organization committed to advancing performing arts and arts education in the Rio Grande Valley. The Let’s Dance concert will feature a dynamic selection of music inspired by dance, promising an evening filled with energy, rhythm, and fun for all ages. Adding to the spectacle, the talented dancers from Debra Case Dance Academy will join the ensemble on stage to select pieces, bringing the music to life with captivating performances. This high-energy event is designed to engage audiences and have everyone tapping their feet to the beat. Jonathan Stevens with MWE, said they always want to find ways to share different aspects of music when designing their shows. Dance is so universal and wherever there is music, he said, people find ways to move to it. “We are excited to try something new for our group and provide variety to the audience.” Stevens went on to talk about their dancers for this event. Debra Case Academy trains many local students. They have their annual Nutcrackers performance as well as many other recitals throughout the year. Our hope is to share the stage with different groups of dancers from their dance studio and showcase the variety of arts in McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley. The dancers will be performing a few pieces. The rest of the concert will be just the ensemble. The pieces showcase a wide variety of musical styles connected to different dances including salsa, waltz, swing, ballet, folk and pop. The range of music is incredibly wide and shows how diverse dance styles have developed at different times and in different locations. This concert also features some of the most challenging pieces of music for the band because they capture such a wide range of music, said Stevens. There are many virtuosic passages in the pieces which highlight the incredible musicianship in the band. Additionally, most of the pieces have never been performed by this group, so it should be very new to even our most loyal audience members. Since its founding in 1973, the McAllen Wind Ensemble has been an integral part of the region’s cultural landscape. Originally envisioned by McAllen businessman Bill Wilson, the ensemble has See MWE pg. 24 McAllen Wind Ensemble. Courtesy photo
