The workshops will focus on fundamental acting techniques and provide hands-on opportunities to practice essential skills for aspiring performers. The adult workshop will be held on Sunday, March 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of believable acting, drawing from both Method and Technique approaches. Sessions will include audition preparation, improvisation exercises, resume and headshot preparation, and practice with audition sides and monologues Constructive critique will be offered openly to help participants improve their craft. Students are encouraged to bring their own monologue (30 to 90 seconds) or a short scene/dialogue for two people. Bringing at least two copies is recommended. Those who wish to attend solely as observers are also welcome with a paid ticket. The instructor will be Pedro Garcia. Pedro Garcia, co-founder and current Artistic Director of PCT, will lead the workshops. Garcia has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1994, when he made his debut in the film Mad Love alongside Drew Barrymore and Chris O’Donnell. Recalling his audition experience, Garcia shared: “At the audition, director Antonia Bird asked me to pretend that she had stolen something from me that I wanted back. By the end of the audition, I literally chased her around the table. A few days later, I was cast in Mad Love and had a speaking line in the film.” Since then, Garcia has appeared in acclaimed productions such as Breaking Bad, Tejano, Halt and Catch Fire, Fast & Furious Five, Queen of the South, and numerous independent films, including several produced in the Rio Grande Valley. He has extensive experience in theater, film production, writing, casting, and directing. Garcia’s current film and commercial agent is Pastorini-Bosby in Houston. He also does Spanish voice-over work for Internetjock.com and Voicejungle.com. Class sizes are limited to the first 25 participants. Advance tickets are $25 plus a small surcharge, available online at www.pharrcommunitytheater.com or Eventbrite. Tickets are $30 at the door if still available. A portion of the proceeds will benefit PCT, a 501(c)(3) community theater organization. To view Pedro Garcia’s acting resume and media clips, visit: https://resumes.actorsaccess.com/ pedrogarcia.
