Enjoy BorderFest in Hidalgo this weekend This year, the City of Hidalgo is celebrating their 48th Borderfest Music and Cultural Festival and are excited to announce La Costeña will be the new title sponsor for the festival bringing the culture of Ireland to Hidalgo. The event is set for Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 16, at the Payne Arena. Over the years, Hidalgo Borderfest has transformed into the Rio Grande Valley’s most iconic festival, celebrating a different country or culture each year. Entertainment and exhibits from these countries provide greater experiences and educational opportunities as the borders are expanded, and Hidalgo Borderfest raises its bar of excellence. Borderfest and La Costeña will continue its mission to unite the community through performing arts, family activities, live music and unforgettable experiences for all of our guests within the Rio Grande Valley. Payne Arena Concerts can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. One day and three-day passes are available. Kick off the BorderFest on Thursday, March 13, with the Grande Parade at 6:30 p.m. There is free admission to the festival grounds on Thursday, March 13. Events will be held at the Payne Arena Ground, 2600 N. 10th St./ Hwy 336. Parade begins South of 10th St. and Produce Rd. to the Payne Arena Delight in tours and walks at Estero Llano Grande Estero Llano Grande State Park stays busy with tours, night walks and more. The park, located in Weslaco, features weekly birding tours and butterfly and dragon tours. There are also special events each month sure to fit everyone. All ages and skill levels are welcome on the two-hour birding tours of the park that are held every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Participants participate in finding as many species of birds as possible, especially the 30 that are termed Valley specialties.
