Villareal is the first repeat winner in the history of the Members’ Juried Art Show, having also earned Best in Show in 2023. David S. Proehl earned second place for Mercedes Stock Show Parade, and Rocio Lopez took third place for Camino no. 1. Honorable mentions went to Cesar Hinojosa for Turban, Alan Hollander for Arterial Harmony, and Adam Boggs for Magic Myron. Flanagan, co-director of Castro Gallery and Project Manager with the River Pierce Foundation, has received international recognition for his films, including the award-winning documentary Breaking the Code, which aired on PBS. “Visitors who see this juried show will appreciate the breadth of talent that we have here in the Rio Grande Valley. There’s a lot of great artists, a lot of great painters, sculptors. There’s even some conceptual art that I thought was interesting to see,” stated Flanagen. “I love that artists are working in challenging mediums, exploring challenging themes.” IMAS Curator Marcelo Ramirez praised the exhibition for showcasing community talent, saying, “This exhibition is a testament to the immense talent, creativity, and dedication of our artistic community in the Rio Grande Valley. It has been incredible to see all the new participants and returning artists flourish and grow in their artistic practice.” The 5th Annual Members’ Juried Art Show at IMAS will evoke wonder and awe at the breadth and diversity of talent and wide-ranging creativity among Rio Grande Valley artists featured in the show.
