The establishment was busy the Sunday afternoon I visited, though we were still seated quickly and didn’t have to wait long for service. They offer both a breakfast menu and a dinner menu with sweet and savory entrees throughout. There’s also specialty coffee and tea options as well as a full bar with a cocktail menu. While still deciding on what to eat, my boyfriend and I shared a coffee – The Golden Grove, a white mocha with caramel drizzle and vanilla cold foam, opting for it hot. The coffee beans are roasted in house which is evident from the first sip. The taste was rich and smooth but not overwhelming or too sweet, having a balance that made it a satisfying beverage. Definitely a nice precursor to the rest of our delectable meal. It didn’t take me long to select the Big Red Glazed Meatloaf. A homestyle meatloaf glazed with a homemade Big Red BBQ sauce, served with two sides, I decided on southern style green beans with bacon and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend chose the Country Fried Chicken with creamy mac and cheese and hushpuppies for his sides. It was clear from first bite that everything is made from scratch, the restaurant also sources local products as much as possible. My meatloaf was well seasoned and had excellent flavor even aside from the savory BBQ sauce. Of course, the sides were equally tasty, the freshness of everything making it feel like a wholesome homecooked meal that I would want seconds of. As my boyfriend and I were sampling from each other’s plates, I told him that we need to visit here again with how good everything is and so many other menu options that caught my eye. He agreed as we cleared both our plates. Perhaps you’ll feel the same when you visit The Grove Farmhouse located in Weslaco at 1322 S. International Blvd. They’re open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
