Debuting for his first time on SPI is the 2025 American Kitefliers Assn. Indoor Single Line National Champion, Rich Cairncross (Media, PA). He will be joined by Brett Marchel (New Boston, MI). Brett was not only captain for Team USA at the 2024 World Kite Cup in Berck Sur Mer, France, he was also an alternate pilot for the special-effects kites at “Epcot Forever,” Disney’s nighttime fireworks show in 20192020. The young and energetic 2022 Wildwoods International Indoor Champion, Adam Shutsky (Baltimore, MD) will be returning as well as many other talented indoor fliers; Paul de Bakker (Oak Harbor, WA), Amy and Connor Doran (Seattle, WA), Marc Conklin (Midlothian, VA), Jim Cosca (Fort Washington, MD), Paul Lamasters (Germantown, MD) and Torrey Lindemann (Dunedin, FL). These amazing fliers will show off their kite-flying talent as they hit the floor with their choreographed routines to a mix of your favorite songs. If you have never been to an Indoor Kite Performance, you don’t know what you are missing! These kiters are the best of the best and the reason that the SPI Indoor Kite Fest is the largest indoor kiting event in the United States. Tickets for the Indoor Kite Exhibition are $15 per person or $25 for both nights. Seating is limited, so tickets must be purchased or reserved in advance at B&S Kites. Tickets are not available at the door and must be picked up on or before January 25th. For more information about the indoor kite fest and sponsoring hotels, contact B&S Kites at (956) 761-1248, by email at spikitefest@ hotmail.com, on the website at www.spikitefest.com, or visit the SPI Indoor Kite Fest event page on Facebook. So, head on down to South Padre Island the first week of February. You’ll be happy you did. You’ll not only get to experience two amazing shows with your friends, but you just may also realize you are never too young or too old to ‘tie one on’! The City of McAllen is currently having their Golden Age Olympics. I am sure many of you are participating in those events. We would love to see photos and hear some recaps from you about what you are doing at them. We love highlighting your wins, and everything else you enjoy doing during your time in the Valley. Who is going to be the winning park this year? What else are you participating in this season? Parades, Red Hatter groups, sewing groups, quilt making, etc.? We would love to see your photos and see what you are doing in your park. If there is something you would like to see or know more about, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. We want to share your news, and we want to share what you want to read. Be sure to check out our advertisers. In our paper you can find advertisers that are here to serve you. Our Taste of the Valley features some really good places to eat – and that Anastasia has really enjoyed visiting, and they love to see you. Let them know you saw them right here in the Winter Texan Times. If you don’t see something that should be here, let them, or us, know. If you have anything to share with us (stories, story ideas, photos), please send it in to news@wintertexantimes.com. ~ Rina RAMBLINGS From pg. 1
