This week we ask our readers to start voting for their favorites for the awards that will be presented at the Valley Star Awards. There are ten categories in which we ask you to vote. Categories are Male Vocalist of the Year; Female Vocalist of the Year; Duet Musical Group of the Year; Family Group of the Year; Concert Choir or Band of the Year; Individual or Small Band of the Year; Novelty, Comedy, or Variety Act of the Year; Gospel Group of the Year; Rock N Roll Band of the Year; and Country Band of the Year. And, of course, most coveted award – the write in – Entertainer/Group of the Year. This one is totally up to you, our readers, because you have the chance to write in your favorite among all of those you have seen perform in the Valley; not just limited to those on the ballot. How to Vote To vote for your favorite Wintertainers™, fill out the Valley Star Awards Ballot that can be found in today’s edition of the Winter Texan Times. Voting can also be done, in our preferred method, online at www.wintertexantimes.com. Only one vote per person is allowed. Voters must use either the online ballot or the printed ballot from the paper. No photocopies of the ballot are permitted. Ballots must be received by Friday, February 6, 2026, at 5 p.m., to be counted. When filling out your ballot, be sure to write in your choice for Entertainer or Group of the Year. This is a write-in category only, and can be easy to overlook as there is no list of nominees for this entry on the ballot. VSA From pg. 1 Kansas Day planned for January 27 The Kansas Day Celebration for the Rio Grande Valley will be held on Tuesday, January 27. The event will again be held at Peter Piper Pizza, 3101 E. Expressway 83, Weslaco. This is for all Kansans – former or current residents. Check-in will be at 1 p.m., with the buffet to start soon after. The 2025 event was at this location, and many positive comments were received regarding the central location, and the buffet luncheon which includes a variety of pizzas, salad bar, breadsticks, dessert and beverage. There will not be an entry fee. Your cost will be based on your personal order. Menu and individual salads are also available. There will be announcements, time to socialize, and door prizes.
