They also had plenty of time to stroll through the dealership lot to see the latest in mobile homes, and for some, a decision to purchase one. That’s what Winter Texans Glynn and Cindy Goodwin, 15-year residents at Winter Green Estates in Mission, were excited about as they talked with Doug Fowler, general manager, who has been with Clayton Homes for 34 years. The Goodwins had just upgraded to a new Clayton Homes model they ordered at the end of last October and moved into a week before the open house. The couple from Illinois had started with a fifth wheel some 15 plus years ago, which had allowed them to travel all over the country. Despite the cold blast, most Winter Texans love the weather in South Texas. Patty Brown, who with her husband, Jim, stays at Sunset Palms Park in Brownsville, mentioned the weather as an important reason to be in the Valley. The Browns are second generation Winter Texans, with her late parents having stayed at a park in Mission. Patty said she enjoys making new friends and Jim said he likes the fresh fruit found here. The Browns, who have been in the Valley for five years, will be marking 10 years of managing a campground in Iowa. They came to the open house to help their fulltime Texas friends, Jeff and Clara Fisher, decide on upgrading with a new mobile home purchase. Also checking out the latest models were a pair of Canadian couples staying at Pine to Palm Resort in Weslaco. Leonard Sakel and Denise Schurke-Sakal, from Manitoba, have logged 14 years in the Valley, while Dave and April Saunders, from Ontario, have been Winter Texans for four years, coming from time in Arizona, which Dave felt was more expensive to live. Both couples indicated they like dancing and Dave said they enjoy country and western music. d n s d g - s y h a - e e e s e o y s - s d - y Clayton Homes Open House. (Photo by Carina A. Brunson)
