SPI CONVENTION CENTER $2 ADMISSION Homegrown BBQ favorite heads to MOSTH The Museum of South Texas History (MOSTHistory) welcomes ArnieTex, one of the Valley’s own BBQ voices, for a live Saturday Speaker Series talk, Q&A, and book signing on February 7, beginning at 10 a.m. The program pulls back the curtain on the real work behind great barbecue, from fire management and timing to seasoning and the small details that separate decent from unforgettable. Known across South Texas as ArnieTex (the BBQ Wiz), he has built a loyal following by keeping barbecue honest, approachable, and rooted in Rio Grande Valley flavor and tradition. ArnieTex will share practical tips, behind-the-scenes stories from the pit, and a Q&A built for everyone from backyard beginners to serious smoke-obsessed fans. Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event lasts until 1 p.m. Books and seasonings will be available for purchase, with a signing immediately following the program. Regular museum admission applies outside the free program window: $9 adults (18+); $6 seniors with ID (62+). FRIENDS of MOSTHistory receive free admission as a benefit of FRIENDship. The Museum of South Texas History (MOSTHistory) preserves and shares the stories of the Rio Grande Valley and the broader South Texas region through exhibits, programs, and community partnerships. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is located in downtown Edinburg at 200 N. Closner Blvd., on the Hidalgo County Courthouse square. and city leadership, including Victor “Seby” Haddad, Mayor Pro Tem and Commissioner for District 5, and Rolando “Rolly” Rios, Commissioner for District 3. A special recognition was presented to Col. Frank Plummer, a three-war veteran who served with distinction in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, honoring his lifelong dedication to service. The event was led by Pamela Wright, President of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and reflected a collective commitment to preserving history, honoring sacrifice, and celebrating patriotism for future generations.
