Josué Rawmirez is a multidisciplinary artist from Ciudad Mante, Tamaulipas, currently practicing in Esto’k Gna land (the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas-Mexico border). Drawing inspiration from local landscapes and everyday cultural practices, Rawmirez reinterprets crafts and traditions to explore identity, challenge historical norms, and foster a shared visual language across communities. Rawmirez guided visitors at IMAS in October through a group mural build, piñata-fying a depiction of traditional altar icons used to commemorate Día de los Muertos. This piñata mural is currently on display at IMAS. An opening reception for Piñatabstract on February 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. will be followed by a special program, IMAS After Dark from 7 to 9 p.m., offering an evening of art, music, and community engagement.
