Longtime resident Anne Gilmer headed the organization committee with many volunteers and began planning this event a year ago. Kudos to all of them! There were contests for best costume and for best decorated table. Prizes were plentiful from people donating something from their home state and winners were drawn from tickets that party goers got upon entering. To say it was spectacular fun is an understatement. A truly apolitical event was enjoyed by all attendees no matter their political affiliations. We’re all Americans and proud of the USA. Happy 250th birthday America! Submitted by Connie Glynn Tropic Star honors Golden Anniversary couples The 33rd Golden Anniversary Celebration was held on Sunday, February 1, at Tropic Star RV Resort in Pharr. This celebration began in 1993, and adding this year’s 10 couples, Tropic Star has honored 647 couples. The Golden Anniversary weekend included a rehearsal dinner for the 10 honored couples on Saturday night. The celebration started at 2 p.m., with an introduction of each couple, followed by musical selections and a renewal of their vows. Sandi Phillips, one of the anniversary couples, said “It was very special for us and we want to thank all of our friends and neighbors who attended.” A reception of cake and punch followed the event for the 165 resort guests who were in attendance. Rochelle Stoffel, a former participant said, “I was in awe of this special event and amazed at the support of the residents of Tropic Star.” This event was hosted by Tropic Star Activities and powered by over 30 resort volunteers. h s e l A e e e u d e r d , e ’ s s Winterhaven residents enjoy the red, white and blue.
