Discounted rates are available for cash payments. - t o s t - - r ” - . e - - r , s s - s - - r , l k - C s e f t s s g , - g h - o ” r d IMAS welcomes the Lunar New Year The community is invited to celebrate the Year of the Horse during the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) Lunar New Year Festival on Saturday, February 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “The Lunar New Year Festival is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate cultural traditions that emphasize renewal, unity, and shared heritage,” said IMAS Director of Education, Roni Cortez. “Through art, music, food, and hands-on activities, IMAS is proud to honor the cultures that make our region vibrant while welcoming a new year filled with hope and prosperity.” The Lunar New Year Festival at IMAS celebrates traditions from Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese cultures with a full day of activities for all ages. Visitors can enjoy traditional games, crafts, calligraphy demonstrations, live performances, food vendors, and artisan booths throughout the museum grounds. The festival offers an immersive cultural experience that blends education, creativity, and community celebration. Local community partners participating in the planning and festival activities include Chamsarang Korean Presbyterian Church of McAllen, the Chinese American Association, the Taiwanese American Association, and multiple departments and student organizations from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, including the College of Liberal Arts- Asian Studies Minor, Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, Department of Writing and Language Studies-Korean, and School of Art and Design-Graphic Design. In addition to festival activities, IMAS will offer a limited-edition 2026 Year of the Horse Lunar New Year Tote Bag for $25. Attendance at the festival is not required to purchase the tote bag. Pre-purchases are encouraged, as quantities are limited. Tote bags may be picked up at the International Museum of Art & Science during regular operating hours. The cost for entry is general admission, $9 for adults, $5 for children, students, and seniors, and $3 for Museums of All (WIC/EBT).
