More than a traditional road race, the Muzicians Run combines fitness, music and an Island-style celebration, with live musicians stationed along the course and a postrace fiesta featuring more music, tacos and refreshments. Participants can choose from a timed 5K or 10K, as well as a one-mile run/walk, making the event accessible to competitive runners, casual participants, walkers and families. “The Muzicians Run captures so much of what people love about South Padre Island…it’s active, festive, a little unexpected and all about having a good time together,” said Kelly deSchaun, Chief Executive Officer of Visit South Padre Island. “Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying the music along the way, it’s a great reason to spend a fall weekend on the Island.” Race activities will be based at Beach Waterpark, 33261 State Park Road 100, where all three distances will start and finish. The races are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., giving participants a chance to take in South Padre Island’s evening coastal atmosphere as they make their way along the flat, out-and-back courses. Music is at the heart of the experience, with live mariachis and other musicians performing at points along the route. Once participants cross the finish line, the celebration continues with the Mariachi After Party, scheduled from approximately 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Awards for the timed races are expected to be presented around 6:30 p.m. The event benefits the Musicians Foundation, which provides financial assistance to professional musicians facing emergencies and hardships, as well as the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary. Each registered participant receives race swag, including a mariachi-themed performance shirt, commemorative bib and decal and a five-inch finisher medal. Participants are also encouraged to add to the fun by dressing in festive or music-inspired costumes.
