December 14, 2022 - Events Calendar

December 1-30 – Christmas Extravaganza Christmas Tree Exhibit is open at Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum. Approximately 40 Christmas trees and decorations are displayed inside the galleries, outside courtyards and museum buildings. December 2-17 – Skate-A Palooza Ice Rink will open at the Cameron County Amphitheater. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 3-17 – The Upper Valley Art League (UVAL) will host their Christmas market featuring original art for sale created by local artists. The market will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. UVAL is located at 921 East 12th St. in Mission, next to Speer Memorial Library. December 13-17 – Quinta Mazatlan Illumina Fest is back for five nights with timed entrances from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Over 3,000 Luminarias will light the forest trails. December 14-17 – Sharyland High School present Matilda Jr. the Musical. Shows will be held at 7 p.m. through the 16th and 3 p.m. on December 17. Doors open an hour before. December 14-17 – The Pharr Community Theater presents Magica, a children’s Christmas play for the entire family. Shows are held at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Now-January 1, 2023 – The Holiday Village in Brownsville will be on display at Dean Porter Park. It will be lit daily from 6 to 10 p.m. Entertainment will be held as well nearly every evening. They perform choral music from sacred and semi classical, to pop and country. Practice sessions are held each Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bentsen Grove Resort (1645 S. Bentsen Rd.) in Mission. December 2-17 – Skate-A Palooza Ice Rink will open at the Cameron County Amphitheater. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 7 – Join the Valley Symphony at the Basilica of Our Lady San Juan del Valle for a very special holiday event. First, the brass will perform seasonal favorites, then the chorale will perform both with the brass as well as a capella. The event will be held at 8 p.m. The Basilica is located at 400 Virgen de San Juan Blvd. Tickets can be purchased at https://valleyorchestra.org/event/merry-and-bright/.

December 7 – Give yourself an early Christmas present by attending the RGV Concert Band’s “A Christmas Celebration” at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1107 Fern in McAllen. Attendees will be treated to one hour of traditional Christmas music that includes both contemporary and religious selections.

December 7 – The South Texas Ecotourism Center (STEC) Laguna Vista speaker series will be a screening of “Deep in the Heart.” The film is a visually stunning celebration of Texas’ diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife found nowhere else. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments are free. STEC is located at 501 W. State Hwy. 100 in Laguna Vista. Speaker series is held every first and third Wednesday.

December 7 – The City of McAllen will be hosting their 10th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd., at 6 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. The event is slated to set the record for the tallest digital Christmas Tree in America at 113 feet. Enjoy holiday performances right before the official lighting ceremony of the tree and the lights associated with the South Pole Illuminated Festival. Admission for the tree lighting is free and includes entrance into the South Pole. Attendees are urged to arrive early.

December 8 – The South Texas Ecotourism Center (STEC) Laguna Vista will hold a Christmas celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will feature Santa, food and craft vendors, and holiday performances. Admission to the event is free. STEC is located at 501 W. State Hwy. 100 in Laguna Vista.

December 8 – Join McAllen Public Library for a writing workshop on Power Words, focusing on word meaning and imagery in writing. The session will be led by the 2022 McAllen Poet Laureate, Victoria Lopez, and would benefit any level writer. The event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A Q&A panel will follow with local poets and authors. Registration required. Call (956) 681-3000. The library is located at 4001 N. 23rd St.

December 8-9 – The Annual Mission Community Health Fair will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. both days at the Mission Event Center, 200 N. Shary Rd. Appointments for tests requiring fasting can be made by calling (956) 585-2727.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Frontage/Alamo Rd. and head down Alamo Rd. toward Alamo Downtown Central Park. The tree lighting will be held after the parade at the park. There will be entertainment, food, and more. Festivities begin at 6:15 p.m.

December 8-10 – The Veterans Memorial high School Harlequin Drama Club presents “School of Rock-The Musical.” The performances will be at 7 p.m. each day. Tickets will be sold at the door, starting at 6:30, for $10. The school is located at 700 E. Mile 2 Rd. in Mission.

December 10 – Rancho Viejo will host their seventh Annual Golf Cart Parade. The event starts at 5 p.m. at the town hall. There will be a posada, tamales, music and more. Contests will be held for the best decorated cart, bike, and home.

December 10 – Keep McAllen Beautiful will host a Christmas Posada at Archer Park, 101 N. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. The free event will feature the traditional posada procession that reenacts Mary and Jospeh’s search for lodging.

December 11 – The Cameron County Amphitheater and Isla Blanca Park will host a Holiday Paw Parade. Bring your pets and holiday costumes to join the fun for the first Annual Holiday Paw Parade on South Padre Island. Prizes and photos will be provided. December 1 – Weslaco Museum debuts their Christmas Tree Forest: Christmas Around the World exhibit. The exhibit will also feature 100+ artifacts from over 50 countries around the world. December 2 – South Padre Island will hold their tree lighting ceremony at the SPI City Hall starting with a welcome by the mayor at 5:30 p.m. Their Annual Christmas Parade will follow at 6 p.m. The route will travel south on Padre Blvd. from Mars to Acapulco east of the medians only.

December 2 – A Touch of Frost, by Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performed at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. It is the holiday tradition featuring the Valley Symphony Chorale and seasonal favorites including sections from Handel’s Messiah and The Nutcracker. November 28 – UTRGV School of Music present Home for the Holidays – an exuberant and joyful evening of holiday favorites performed by a variety of UTRGV School of Music ensembles. December 1 – Weslaco City Hall, 275 S. Kansas, will have their Christmas Light Display with a holiday market at 6 p.m.

December 2 – South Padre Island will hold their tree lighting ceremony at the SPI City Hall starting with a welcome by the mayor at 5:30 p.m. Their Annual Christmas Parade will follow at 6 p.m. The route will travel south on Padre Blvd. from Mars to Acapulco east of the medians only.

December 2 – A Touch of Frost, by Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performed at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. It is the holiday tradition featuring the Valley Symphony Chorale and seasonal favorites including sections from Handel’s Messiah and The Nutcracker. December 2 – The City of Mission will host their Holiday Market featuring local vendors and live music. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Market Square at 202 W. Tom Landry. The event is pet friendly.

December 2-17 – Skate-A Palooza Ice Rink will open at the Cameron County Amphitheater. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 3 – Watch the Lighted Boat Parade of illuminated boats of all sizes cruise through the Laguna Madre Bay. Designated viewing areas throughout the route offers public viewing. The parade starts at 6 p.m.

December 3 – Experience the fun of RGV Modern Band Ensembles and faculty band. These groups comprise students learning new instruments and making contemporary popular music of varied styles. The show will also feature The Minor Revisions, a pop/rock band made up of UTRGV music faculty members. December 3 – Cameron County Amphitheater and Isla Blanca Park will host a tree lighting and firework display at 9 p.m. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 3-4 – The 29th Annual Cinesol Film Festival will be held at the Mission CEED building and Mission Event Center. Screenings and sessions are $5 each. Awards ceremony is $10. A full calendar can be found on their website at www.cinesol.com.

December 5 – The UTRGV Viola Studio Recital will be held at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Library Theater in Edinburg. Visit utrgvarts.universitytickets.com/ for tickets.

December 10 – Weslaco will host their lighted Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. downtown on Texas Blvd. from Pike St. to 6th St. A Santa Dash will be held just before the parade at 4 p.m. Parking spaces are available along the parade route.

December 11 – The Cameron County Amphitheater and Isla Blanca Park will host a Holiday Paw Parade. Bring your pets and holiday costumes to join the fun for the first Annual Holiday Paw Parade on South Padre Island. Prizes and photos will be provided. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.
