Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center is honored to host author and Texas historian W.F. Strong on Thursday, January 13th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a special discussion on birds of prey and reading/book signing of his most recent publication Stories from Texas, Some of Them are True, Vol. II on the Nature Speaker Series at Quinta Mazatlán. Book sale and book signing available following program. Tickets are $5 per person. Pre-purchased tickets recommended. Tickets available for purchase at www.quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com. January 13 and 14

Ron Hoover will host their 15th Annual Open House next week, Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The annual open house has become a popular event in the Rio Grande Valley, drawing in thousands of people each year. This year’s event is expected to be even bigger than previous years. All who register at the event will receive a free t-shirt, free food, free drinks, and free parking. Ron Hoover RV & Marine Center is located at 101 Expressway 83 in Donna (on the south side of the expressway). Parking will be available along North Ave. behind Ron Hoover. Golf cart shuttling will be provided both days.

January 14 and 15

RGV Woodcarvers Show will be held at the Nomad Shrine Club (1044 W. Nolana Blvd., Pharr). There will be carvings of just about every carving category on display. Many displayers will have carvings and supplies available for sale. Look at the full story in this issue

January 15

The City of Mercedes will host their Queen City Market Days located in historical downtown Mercedes from 4 to 9 p.m. The event will be held every third Saturday of the month from November through January.

Get the scoop on why soil is vital to life at the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) January 15 and 16. The Soil Science Expo at IMAS is a weekend-long event celebrating the ground under our feet with virtual programs occurring Saturday, January 15, and a community day on-site Sunday, January 16 from 1-5 p.m. The event will feature hands-on art and science activities and opportunities for visitors to engage with civil engineers and soil scientists. Participating organizations include For the Love of Soil, McAllen Public Utility, Rodriguez Engineering Laboratories, LLC, Texas A&M University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Earth, Environment, and Marine Sciences.
