It was beautiful weather last Tuesday. Simply perfect weather for a little bit of gospel outside on the Fun N Sun parking lot. There was a slight breeze and nearly no clouds in the sky. People had gathered in their golf carts or lawn chairs to see Rusty Rierson, Ralph Kuster and Lindley Creek. They had also gathered to help raise money for some especially important organizations.

Did you know Bluebonnet RV Resort has a nationally registered butterfly garden?
The Nationally Registered butterfly garden located at Bluebonnet RV Resort was created in 2020. Countless hours of research and labor went into the creation and the continued daily care of the butterfly garden.
We have flowers, trees and plants that are native to Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, and several other countries in South America. Every tree and plant that we have planted here were specifically selected to attract butterflies and hummingbirds too.
The butterfly garden has two trellised entrances, both covered with vine growing flowers and followed with patio paver sidewalks to allow guests to walk through the garden and observe the butterflies and various horticulture. As well, we have two wooden glider benches that allow guests to sit and relax in the garden with their favorite book or perhaps to enjoy a cup of coffee and good conversation with a friend.

Virtual Pioneer & Ranching Crafts Day programming is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 on the Museum of South Texas History’s Facebook page.

This year, however, the museum will host a virtual demonstration on the community-favorite activity butter making. This demonstration will feature museum staff showcasing the ingredients, science and history of butter making in the borderlands. A digital recipe card is available to view or download at mosthistory.org so you can follow along or make on your own time. “Butter Making Demonstration” will broadcast at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, on Facebook Live and YouTube Live.

Quinta Mazatlán is hosting author Lisa Kay Adam on Thursday, February 11th, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on The Back Porch at Quinta Mazatlán. Adam has taken the whispered and fragmented words of the ancient Coahuiltecan peoples and expanded the meanings into poems and stories. Her book, xuai, will be for sale and signing for that unique Valentines gift.
The book, xuai: mission-house-village-town, opens up a window of imagination into the experience of indigenous peoples who lived in the Spanish colonial missions of South Texas and northeastern Mexico. The poems incorporate phrases and words from their long-silent language, as well as elements from the history, natural history, and archeology of the region. The book features color illustrations from a rare colonial map of the area.

Dave and Daphne are here again. This couple loves to entertain and you can see it when they get on the stage. This group has won a couple of Valley Star Awards including Duet Musical Group of the Year, and in 2019 they won Entertainer of the Year.

This past week has been a fun one. I was able to go out to South Padre Island last week and it was beautiful. I am rarely disappointed in the weather when I go there, although I know it is not always perfect weather.
It was in the mid 70’s with a breeze so the waters were choppy, and it was a little chilly here and there, but nice, nonetheless.
Dozens of people were enjoying the weather just as much as I was. There were shoppers walking along the boulevard with bags of merchandise going to their next destination. There were a couple of restaurants and areas that looked full as well. The Island was bustling.
