October 13 – Double, double, toil and trouble! In the spirit of Halloween, the City of Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its first-ever “Seniorween.” Attendees 55 years and older can expect thrills and chills between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the new and improved ‘El Tule’ Jose Nieto and Consuelo Alfaro Robledo Center, located at 700 S. Veterans Blvd. Participants will have the opportunity to partake in a costume contest, make Halloween-themed crafts, and play Loteria free of charge. Residents will also have the chance to get their daily exercise through low-impact activities guided by city staff.

October 14 Annual Solar Eclipse will be occurring. Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park will be having a special viewing party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The eclipse starts at about 10:30 a.m. and will peak at around noon. All are welcome to come out and join in the viewing. Sunglasses are not a safe alternative. Solar/Eclipse glasses will be for sale at the park store, but guests are welcome to bring their own pair. Bentsen State Park is located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr.

October 21 – The women of St. Alban’s will be selling their Famous Brisket Sandwich Plate at a drive-through fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to St. Alban’s School Security. The meal will include a generous brisket sandwich with pickles, onions, jalapenos, rancho beans, chips, and a brownie. Tickets must be presented in line at the drive-through at 1417 E. Austin Ave. in Harlingen. Tickets must be purchased in advance at St. Alban’s Church Office, (956) 428-2305. Tickets are $15 a plate. Church office hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
